OK let me "Maths" this out one more time.....
This time I'll use the new Starbucks Robot that pours 120 cups of coffee per hour.
According to CNBC, "Robbie" the coffee making robot costs $25,000.
https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/08/this-25000-robot-wants-to-put-your-starbucks-barista-out-of-business.html
Let's give him a 10 year life span (Normal IRS depreciation schedule.) Sooo.... over the course of Robbie's "Life"....
His initial cost works out to $2,500 per year.
We'll give him a very generous 10% per year maintenance allowance (Another $2500)
Let's say he uses - Hmmm - $300 per month in electricity? ($3,600 per year.)
That adds up to Robbie's cost for Starbuck's corporation of $8,600 per year.
(I'm assuming the machine replaces just 1 (ONE) Human per store....
THIS COULD BE SEVERAL, AND THE NUMBERS WOULD MULTIPLY!!!
So I looked up the hours of my local Starbucks, and they're open from 6am. to 7pm., 7 days a week. That's 13 hours a day or 91 hours a week. Assuming they're closed say...... 7 Holidays per year, that works out to 4,641 hours per year.
So after doing the "Maths", we can say that this machine would cost my local Starbucks just over $1.85 and three tenths of a ¢ per hour!!!
THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH BURGER FLIPPING LOSERS WANTING $15 PER HOUR!!!!!!
A "Barrista" at Starbucks makes a national average of $12 per hour According to Zip Recruiter.
(Couldn't find if this includes tips or not.)
Soooo the machine costs the Corporation $10.15 LESS PER HOUR than a Human Being. That's $4,002 per month, or $48, 029 per year. Starbucks has 20,000 locations in the US of 'Merika, so by installing these machines.... They would save $960,588,611.00 per year!!! $960 MILLION bucks a year!!!
Even if Barrista's were willing to work for minimum wage ($7.25 per hour,) these machines would still save the Corporation over $501 MILLION per year!!!!
The shiny prospect of ALL that money will drive them to do this NO MATTER WHAT!!!
**THIS KIND OF ECONOMICS WILL AFFECT ALL TYPES OF BUSINESSES! KISS YOUR JOBS GOODBYE FOLKS!!!
And this robot never calls in sick.
Isn't moody.
Doesn't randomly curse out customers.
Makes the same cup of coffee every time.
Coffee shops in the near future will be of two types, basically a robot in a kiosk
or a full service (with a smile, damnit!), lot of ambiance, sit down and relax coffee shop.
And starbucks will have to decided...
a lower price per cub of espresso, or increasing comfort in all their stores.
But, govern-cement jobs are really next. They are just begging to be automated.
Doesn't include training, OSHA compliance, Bathroom breaks, overtime, or Workmen's Comp. either!!!
Look for this to be happening in EVERY field of work soon!
