Has your City recognized the Photo Op Value of a 3D sign with your City name?
I live in Toronto Canada and wanted to write about our TORONTO 3D sign and how it has helped increase Tourism to our city.
A little about the sign. The letters measure 3 meters tall and the installation has a total length of 22 meters. The sign is lit with wifi controlled LED lights that can create an estimated 228 million colour combinations.
Needless to say it is impressive and cost the city roughly a hundred thousand dollars to have built.
Some may think that is was a waste of money however when considering Toronto hit a new record number of visitors last year it was money well spent. This sign has been a blessing for Tourism.
Pan Am Games
The City of Toronto gave our TORONTO sign the Official hashtag #xoTO.
The Toronto sign was an idea originally thought up by City Staff as an attraction idea when hosting the 2015 Pan American Games. The sign was supposed to be a temporary installation with plans to dismantle it by November of 2016.
The sign ended up being a gigantic success. Within the first year the Toronto sign appeared in an estimated 120 MILLION pictures posted on social media. The social media exposure blew away all expectations!
Since the Toronto sign was such a huge hit with tourists along with local Torontonian’s the City of Toronto decided to keep the sign where it still remains today.
Each time I walk by Nathan Phillip’s Square I always see dozens of tourists along with locals taking pictures in front of the sign as the desirability remains very much in tact for this type of photo op.
Holiday Fair (ice skating)
Toronto broke it’s all time Tourism record last year with over 44 Million visitors spending a record amount of just over 9 Billion dollars. I think the Toronto sign has had a tourism branding value based off the significant social media numbers that could be influencing tourists. Other cities could also be seeing this valuable marketing opportunity that can help influence Tourism dollars.
I recently read a Steem article written by @bonjovey about her & @purepinay 's trip to the City of Dumaguete. Bonjovey had included a photo of herself in front of the cities 3D Dumaguete sign.
This 3D Dumaguete sign was recently unveiled in late January 2018 by Mayor Felipe Remollo. Dumaguete has decided to use the official hash tag #DumaGeTmE.
This makes me wonder how many other cities around the World have created city signs along with a hashtag to represent the sign?
Does your city have a 3D Photo Op sign?
If you have a picture of your city sign please post it in the comments section as I would love to know about it.
Thanks for reading.
Wishing everyone a well and wonderful day!

Edited for a section that was missed. Sorry I am new to Steem and still trying to figure it all out.

Thanks for the tip, followed. Nice to see some familiar face's up here!
When I first saw your icon, I assumed this sign was on the lakefront -- which I thought might spoil the scenery.
Now that I see it's at Nathan Phillip's Square, I kinda like it. In fact, it probably even enhances the aesthetics of the square. And such an instantly recognizable sign will definitely boost tourism.
Vive Toronto!
The sign is at Nathan Phillip's Square right in front of City Hall. The water in the picture is the water fountain during the summer and a public ice skating rink in the winter. You are correct, it does enhance the aesthetics of the square. I can't think of a better location for it in Toronto.
