Pockets Of Influence
Everyone nowadays wants influence. To go even further many want followers just for the sake of it. Now what I'm not saying is that there is anything wrong with trying to influence people. In fact that is exactly what I do with my content. But if our focus is only on amassing as many followers as possible we are missing one of the most powerful things about being on Steemit.
The ability to build strong and reciprocating communities.
I believe this is one the most powerful things about being here. I've used other social media sites and to be honest I never felt the same cohesion and community that I feel here. It's just different. Here is where I feel like I can have great conversations and empowering engagement. This year, I believe, Steemit/Steem will blow the doors off of our expectations. Especially once SMT's (Smart Media Tokens) are at play.
We don't have to worry about gaining hundreds of thousands of followers just for the sake of it. Focus on creating value for people first. Even if it's 1 person. Being able to have a positive impact on just 1 person counts. Once you focus on giving people something of value the followers will be a by-product of your willingness to give. This is why I don't worry about the followers. I just do my best to give you all great and positive content while building a feeling of community. Hopefully what I am doing will make a big difference in the long run. You can do the same. Now go set the world on fire and give. Peace out.

In my opinion, what makes steemit super different is that fact that you can make income without an investment. The tools needed are originality, consistency and probably networking - a community membership kind.
When many people first hear or heard about steemit, the first thought is that it's another group of swindlers at work. The news of zero-investment however makes them make an effort. I was one of such people cos I fell for scammers before.
The fact that steemit even delegates a level of steempower to start blogging is the difference between steemit and other platforms.
Another difference is that there are different methods of earning on steemit. Some blog only, others curate only, some others sell upvotes, some make money from steempower delegation, and so on. It's all dynamic and so, progressive and promising a great future.
And also don't forget that there are many other apps on the steem blockchain that you can get paid to use.
Yes. That's true. Some of them are however not straightforward. I tried out dmania this past weekend and what I noticed is that dmania upvotes majorly those who use bid bots to promote their posts. It's not good enough. I hope I'm not talking like a loser.

No you don't sound like a loser. I've used is Busy but I've only used it like 3 times.
Also I've used Steepshot in the past because I also love taking photos.
I guess it really depends on which kind of content you are trying to create. Not everyone cares to blog so I get that.
That's a good perspective. When you start focusing on the payout rather than what you're putting in, your view gets distorted. Rather, focus on what you're putting into the community. Is it engaging, unique, original, heartfelt, genuine? If it is, you're not only going to get followers, but followers who actually want to read your material and who will reward you for it. That's much different than 10,000 bots or unengaged people following. That really doesn't do much good.
I think one of the things that makes Steemit different is the ability to flag. Downvoting someone's content means that any time you have an interaction on the blockchain, you can be judged for it. If you're a jerk, people can judge you and it will affect your standing in the community (reputation) and your compensation (payout). In the long-term it can even lower your follower count. Those factors can help make people more conscious of what they say because there's that accountability mechanism in place.
And the thing is that people can tell when you are genuine or not. I think the flag can be a good think as long as it is not abused. But we know some will abuse it. I have only flagged someone once out of all teh time I've been here. If someone is not being respectful to others then I just ignore them. This way you don't reward that kind of mentality.
I agree I think that is what makes this social media site different. I like it so much that I have deleted all other sites and now just focus on steemit as my main one. You wouldn't believe the time that is wasted just on Facebook alone. Atl least here I can feel like i’m contributing in a healthy way.

There are so many things that make steemit different from, say Facebook for example. Except for some conflict, this platform focuses on positive energy and all of the cool things that go with that like supporting new people, mentoring communities, the idea that genuine commenting is encouraged and rewarded, interesting and engaging content; I could go on.
In a nut shell, I believe that here, people post what they think others want to see, and on other platforms, people post what they want you to see. So the basic foundation here is a selfless one, which encourages selfless behaviour from others. And that is why I love it!

Spot on with everything. I love it here too. It's ridiculously hard to build this kind of culture but Steemit has pulled it off so far.
In my opinion being an ad free environment is the best thing I have experienced here. We are not nuisanced by unnecessary pollution which ads carry with them.
Second best thing is steemit is like a cohesive community which is always more than willing to help others to gain knowledge and solve problems. Here you have voice, you are listened and people value your opinion.
As we all know time is money, rewarding platform of Steemit not only values our time by improving ourselves but also pays our genuine efforts by monetary benefits as well.
Quality is the best thing we should focus on. If we create quality content, followers will rush to it, so followers is not an issue, quality matters most.

I agree about the ads. We don't watch them anyway. Why make them? They should market with content instead of pops that interrupt our flow.
Let's just hope Steemit doesn't get flooded with ads one day. I like that it's not like that.
A great post you have shared to begin with and some great thing i have learnt from this while reading and watching the vlog of your's.
In today's world i don't think if one is online they need some kind of influence for sure otherwise the survival may be hard if you are serious about it whether it can be of everything whether among friend or community the world is changing rapidly and this has led to this thing to flourish more and rightly said the people are just off to get followers as quickly as they can get but the best thing here on steemit is that if we post quality content on a regular basis we don't need to worry about the followers count like other mainstream social media where people give money just for that number here we build along with time that is the real influence according to me.
Well i Agree Strongly on this one !!! Way Way different than usual stuff we see around us always infact earlier i was almost on facebook to stay in touch with friends and now i don't even open that if my friend don't send me message hahah time quickly changes and nothing is for permanent this is what i have learnt the most we need to make quick changes and we have to adapt to them.
The communities play a huge role here which is just perfect for everyone where they can learn earn and grow together.
We should be very happy indeed that we are here way before than everyone else time to use this opportunity and make this year the best it is the year !!!

Some wants influence. Some wants money. Some wants fame. Some wants respect. Deal with what you really want. Deal with what you need. Deal with what makes you happy. You can be greatful to any things if it makes your life not miserable.
We all want different things. True and that's what makes Steemit so great is that we can find like minded people pretty easy.

You are right, the community is what matters here. If you think about your posts, usually approx same people vote for your content. Well, there are some new people engaged now and then and sometimes the regular people skip some of your articles. In general, however, kind of same people vote for the people in their community. Right? What makes you successful is that there are voters that think you matter and support you and you support them in return. You absolutely can't change your circles in your every post, there are more or less the same people voting for you and then you get some new users. And that's why community matters the most. You can rely on the people you are surrounded by (surely it means that the quality of the content remains good) and they can rely on you.
It's good to have a core group of people who support you. I agree.

Steemit is fundamentally different from all that I've seen before. First of all, it's not just users - it's a family. It is a growing and cohesive family that helps and supports each other.
Unlike other social networks Steemit can teach you a lot. Not such a social network where you could so confidently become smarter. Here there are excellent communities full of useful information. A lot of high-quality and truthful content, in contrast to fake information in other sources. And yes I agree that there is no information garbage (advertising, spam)
Your voice plays a key role. It is here that they really say money. You invest in this platform your time and knowledge and in return you get experience, more opportunities and of course money. I like that you can get good and kind advice. You can find friends from all over the world.
Steemit makes people see the world differently. He definitely changes us for the better and gives us the opportunity to develop and manifest ourselves as a person.
I believe this is what really makes Steemit different than other platforms. People don't understand how difficult it is to not only build a social media platform but also to create one that is full of strong relationships and passionate people. I think we are ahead of the game with Steemit.
