What is steemit ?

Isn't steemit like facebook but better because of the money?

You probably agree with what I said so far, because that's what the top witnesses say and that's exactly how some people advertise it on youtube (as facebook but better).

Simple and clear right ?

Now lets see what facebook is ?

A place where you can "freely" share song you like maybe share a picture from google you fancy?
even post movie trailers for your followers/friends to see.

People build this expectation for these new users that it's facebook and you will be rewarded for facebook type behaviour and then we flag them to death because we lied to them.

How welcoming?

Either we stop saying its facebook or accept it is facebook and accept the "spam" but then again its not spam if its facebook its just sharing what you like with your followers and if they like it and upvote it, who are we to judge what someone likes or decide to upvote?

I just really wanted to talk about this and maybe someone out there can explain whats happening?

Because what we are seeing is we are trying to make social media clones but trying do it better?
look at @steepshot that's the instagram killer right ? but I see people dont love single image posts because it brings no "value" but who are you to judge value if that person's followers think its valuable who are you to say its not "accepted"

So my question is what is steemit ?

Thank you @diebitch for editing my post, please go check her profile (upvote/follow/resteem)

I agree, we do lie to people by even implying it's a Facebook clone with a monetary make-over. I tell people it's a blogging site where you can actually make money (then I show them the money I've made).

and i can respect that! it is a blog site or atleast treated like that but people still force this facebook tag on steemit and then they expect people to act opposite ? strange

Yeah, if you're going to tell people one thing, be honest with your reactions then. Done say one thing and do something different. I can't stand lies, it's like acid in my soul.

Hmmm... Good question! I tried to explain to my friends and colleagues what is Steemit about. I tried the Facebook approach but got weird looks. I guess we need to stop define it as other platforms and make it our own. Yeah, you could call them clones. The first big social media platform was MySpace. Since then, social media changed and... evolved?
I believe there has to be a balance and allow steepshooter to thrive, too. I mean, I get tired reading and reading all the time. Single photo posts with a little text breaks that routine.

recently and im talking about super recent i watched a video of two steem witnesses kept saying its facebook and that made me make a post really because either it is or its not stop lying to people and confusing them

FB is the only thing that people can relate to, it's simpler to gain new users like this. But then, some of them will leave because this really isn't facebook. You can call this bad advertising, maybe.

To compare steemit to FB is a kind of nonsense and mendacious. Steemit is for bloggers who can earn money for their content. FB doesn't pay you, and neither is it a blogging site. I agree with what you are saying about freedom of expression. Although I don't like some of the stuff being posted on steemit, I defend their right to say it, so long as it's within the boundaries of decency and doesn't spread hate etc. After all, that's democracy!

i think you are looking at it the right way

Anytime i introduce people to Steemit i just tell them its Facebook with more money and kinda looks static
