Credit your Images - A Guide for new Users

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

My mission here is to help you learn how to cite your images like a pro

As I was wandering in the steemit wilderness, I saw many articles from various users without included sources of images. Did you know that when we post a picture that isn't ours without image source, we commit plagiarism? Plagiarism can get us flagged and other sorts of bad things.

I will show you step by step how to properly cite this image:

Steemit logo

The default code for this picture is:

![Steemit logo](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)

If you want to link your text to an URL you need to write following:

[text](URL)

In text section, we can write "Image source" or any other words that make sense. In URL you need to put the link of your picture. That link, in this case, will be:

https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg

This is how final form should look:

![Steemit logo](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)
[Image source](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)

Afterwards you can add center command to centre your picture and text

<center>
![Steemit logo](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)
[Image source](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/steem.jpg)
</center>

Image source

After that, decrease font of "image source" text by using command sub

<center>
![Steemit logo.jpg](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/2017/03/steem.jpg)
 [Image source](https://blog.spectrocoin.com/2017/03/steem.jpg)
</center>

Did you notice any difference now?

I hope that you will be able to apply this and that it will help you with your future posts, in order to make your article more successful!

Steem on!

Why to correctly cite your images?

You will avoid being flagged for plagiarism

People will respect you more

Your blog will get new more professional outlook.

Both this and your previous blog, on image resizing are really good. Thanks for the code and effort to explain clearly.

I'm really happy that you like both of my works. I also want to say that I appreciate your honest opinions about it.

Thank you for your support.

@jokster, thanks for writing another informative article! Very helpful, and I like that you keep your tips focused on a narrow bit of information, and don't overwhelmed me with too much. Well illustrated examples, too. I will resteem this, and take a look at your other related articles.

I'm just glad that you like it and that it helped. Come back anytime! :)

@jokster, I have found your articles very engaging and informative. Well worth a look at. Keep up the great work!

This is really a good one. I was wondering how i accredit the owner of the picture that i took online. Nice....

This is fundamental that every beginner should read before posting random internet pictures in his articles.

I'm so happy that I could help.

Yes indeed your post did do a great deal. It is very enlightening.

What if you got the picture through a messaging app like Whatsapp?
