RE: Touching, homeless street child makes a plea to the Government "Let the people have OPPORTUNITY , no more no less"

in #steemit8 years ago

Thank you for posting this. I would love it if everyone in the world had opportunities to make a positive change in their life. I wonder what would happen if these kids were given cell phones. I would be very interested to see what types of blog postings they could come up with. I’ve never tried posting to Steemit from a cell phone but I would think it could be done. Maybe somebody with deep pockets could get some smart phones out to everyone to see what would happen. Best wishes for all.

I was thinking the same thing. What if they had cell phones and a steem or bitcoin wallet and then stores in the area where they could use the qr code to make purchases. The whole problem of theft or bullies taking their phones or intimidating them into misuse of the funds would somehow have to be solved. But, its satisfying even to imagine a scenario that would allow for direct funding , even on a very limited scale, directly into the street kids wallet plus a Skype follow up to help them understand what crypto coins are and how to use them. I think feet on the ground would be needed to introduce theses ideas and to champion these kids into a life of possibilities and as the fluent in english speaking boy on the video said; OPPORTUNITY

Nice ideas on using steem or bitcoin. I think you are right about theft and bullies - I had a few more thoughts on it.

Even public access to a coffee shop like place where kids could use computers for whatever they wanted and find shelter might be helpful. If you build up enough value you can make opportunities for yourself (this is difficult for everyone though). It is very tough to know what is helpful and possible to do without being there in their shoes. I have heard that bullies taking paychecks in order to provided “safety” is a problem in some countries.

Having funds on your own personal cell phone may not be as dangerous as going to work in a conventional job that pays well without having a home and some community support - I just don’t know. At least with a cell phone you can lock the contents with a pin and it is not as obvious as carrying around a wad of cash on the street. (Perhaps easier to hide?)

I wish we knew what would be of the best help.
