Yes! This is the way blockchain tech is supposed to work. No need for centralized exchanges that require you to keep a balance with them. Blocktrades makes it easy to move from one crypto-currency to another without even having an account!
ShapeShift.io works in a similar way, but Steem hasn't been available on it for a while... so I'm glad I found Blocktrades.
