Steemit Better Than Farcebook!

in #steemit7 years ago

I spent some time on Farcebook this week, catching up with some family and friends. I am trying to get them over here. I see many nice, cute, and funny videos, photos and memes posted over there and say to myself, and to others, "Why here? Get over to Steemit and make it really worth your while."

This past week, two of my relatives had their Farcebook account hacked. Not sure how it happened yet, something about when they confirmed new friend requests.

And I "joined" two groups I would never join. I had to tell Farcebook I wanted out. When I clicked Leave This Group, here is what popped up on the screen (I replaced the name of the group with the words "this particular group" because there were two of them):

I didn't want to report them, they just weren't my cup of tea or my brand of vodka. But notice what I circled in red:

I checked the box: Prevent other members from adding you back to this group, but did I really have to do that? Does Farcebook really let anyone add people to their groups? Who asked for that?

Apparently, during the chain of events when accepting friend requests, based on the fact we already have mutual friends, we let in anybody.

I said okay at first. I figured more people would see my books when they come out. I get the Farcebook networking scenario: We all know eleven people, and each of them knows eleven people and then all of those people know eleven people, and before you know, millions of people are in your network.

But what I am seeing now is what Hillary Clinton tried to promote with it takes a village. No, Hillary, it does not take a village, because it all depends on who lives in that village. We know the old saying about one bad apple spoiling the whole bunch. We always watched who are kids were around, even in what we thought was a nice neighborhood.

Anyways, that is what was going on on Farcebook this week. But I have to ask you top Steemians, are we to invite as many people as we can to our sane platform over here? And do you prevent miscreants from coming in? And how do you respond to the questions we hear when we invite some good people: How do you make money? How do you get paid? I think I have been flubbing my explanation to them. I want to say it exactly right. Thanks for Steemit!

Just leave one last message with your link to Steemit, over at Farcebook: “I'm not here any more. Find me at Steemit, platform that pays!”

I just saw this post by a relative over there:

"This is the real me and I reported the other one who cloned an account pretending to be me and apparently didn't need access to my account to do
the dirty deed. Be very careful as this deed can be done without truly hacking into your account as they use publicly accessible photos to create the cloned profile. If it doesn't look right to you, than treat it as such and trust no one."

Another good reason to be over here on Steemit!

I have spent about three months on Steemit now... and I've noticed that my Farcebook time has dropped by about 80% as a result... I still post occasional pictures of cats over there, but that's about it.

I am trying to wean myself off of it. I would like to do a massive invite to all of my followers over there and bring 'em over here but I don't think Zuckerwhatshisname would like that, so when I get time I will do it one at a time.

Plus, I know they are having problems right now with accounts being hacked and miscreants creeping in among the friends and relatives we trust. So I have to sort out the friends from the foes. I only want good people over here.
