Is steemit really the best way to make money with our content ?

Something just got me thinking, is steemit really the best way to make money with our content ?

I believe the answer is no.

Let me explain, if you had your own blog, like 10 years ago, you could earn money with every one of your articles for life. You post your article on your blog and forever that article was going to bring some money on the table. Of course, if you start a blog now you won't make much money until you have enough "followers" (visits) on your blog. But visits grow over time, so does your revenue.

With steemit we are actually selling our content to steemit for a oneshot payment, sometimes the payments are high, sometimes they are ridiculous. I for example posted a few articles these past days that earned me nothing, now this content is on steemit for free and i didn't get any reward (payment) for it. If i just posted those articles on my personal blog, i could over time have generated income.

Each and every article that you post on your blog has value forever because they are indexed in the search engines. I once owned a swimming pool website/blog where i posted how to articles on how to take care of your swimming pool.

I believe i wrote around 500 articles on that blog, one per day for 500 straight days. That blog earned me 2000 USD per month, even when i stopped working on it. Yes, that's right, free money flowing into my pocket every month, passive income. Steemit is not about passive income but about active income, meaning you need to create new content every day and curate content to make money, and if your articles don't catch any whale or user that has enough power, you won't get paid for it. You are working for free.

What is your thought on this ? Because this is not a social network like facebook, posting pictures of your cat or your food won't make you any money at all. You are not going to be paid to post what you are actually posting on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. You only receive rewards for high quality content, and that content could earn you more on your own blog. Let's do some math.

My articles were 600 words long, i wrote 500 of them in 500 days, and that earned me 2000 USD per month, till i sold the site for 50 000 USD. I kept the site for 3 years, i made around 122 000 USD for writing 500 articles, i didn't do any SEO work or anything and the blog was using wordpress, so no expenses. That's 244 USD per article.

Do you believe we are all going to make 244 USD per article of 600 words on steemit ? I don't believe so. Only a few of the steemians are going to make money, most of us are not making money by writing articles. Look at this poor guy, do you think he will stick around for long ?

Yeah there's a slight chance your posts will hit off but that chance is very small, I haven't wrote much as haven't been here that long , I haven't made much so my hourly rate isn't looking to good. There's only so many rejections one person can take

@karen54 , just read this and it has been 10 months since you wrote it, and thought you might like to revisit this comment hehe as I am sure you are pleased with your progress on Steemit :)

Create a great day,
@kozan

Thank you :)

I'm not here to make money on my content. I'm here to buy my way onto STEEM with my content, get a reputation and, only then, make a little money on the side.

The thing is, there is a chance for you to make serious money if the post goes viral on here. If it does it would probably make more money than it would sitting on a blog unless you already have a large amount of traffic.

Traffic comes with time. If you steem for 5 years in that amount of time you could have a very huge blog who earn a lot of money. Here is more instant, you could earn right now 10K if you post some awesome article. But on your blog you are working for the long term and for yourself.

As I get mentioned here I feel obligated to add my comment :)

One thing you are missing in your point is the interest you get on Steem Power and Steem dollars, just for holding them, so even if you don't post or curate every day you can still earn something.

As for me, all hope is not lost... yet.

I believe holding steem power does nothing good to your bank account, it's only fighting inflation, not generating money. SBD will earn you 10% but it's value seems to fluctuate a lot, it should be pegged to 1 USD but it's not the case.

If you Power Down you get weekly payments in liquid Steem tokens and the interest you generate for that week will be more than what will be available to you in Steem, so you will still end up with increased Steem Power and have have some liquid Steem tokens that you can sell if you want to turn them into money.

Yes but at the same time the price of steem goes down much faster. As more coins are created the value of these coins goes down. You have more coins that are valued less.

I thinks its down to who you know on here too, if you know the big writers then you have a chance but without that help its difficult to make much

I have a couple YouTube channels that get a combined traffic of 10,000 views per day. However, I have never had any video come close to paying me the same amount as I have made from some of my Steemit articles in the same day. So in my opinion, Steemit is a great way to diversify your online earning potential.

Well Youtube is not yours, it's Google. Just like Steemit is not yours.

Good points but I think Steemit may be easier to get exposure... especially as we're in the infant stages still.

Some people earn more than 1K per article and they post 3 or 4 times a day. So, even if it is not a passive income~
100K a month! It is insane...
