I'm new to steemit too, but what I found out so far is, that in the top bar on the magnifying glass is a google custom search that will show you any results to the keywords you type in. And on the right of the top bar there's an extra menu with one of the menu points "trending topics" where every topic listed can be klicked. For further help there seems to be a help channel on steemit chat, which I think requires a separate registration.
