What Would @wang Do? Help #ProjectNewbie Reach Out To New UserssteemCreated with Sketch.

A smart way to build community at Steemit could earn rewards, followers, even real friends. Have you met a new user this week?

How to Earn Rewards With Project Newbie

I recently joined @acidyo and @projectnewbie in trying to get new users more exposure.
#projectnewbie is looking for curators. If interested, DM @acidyo on chat or reply in the comments below and I’ll connect you. He’s been busy lately, so be nice to him.

Here's how you can earn rewards without making any commitment by adding #introduceyourself posts to the #projectnewbie channel:

  1. Look through the #introducemyself, #introduceyourself and other tags where people might have made their first official introductory post.

  2. Confirm that it is: between 30mins and 30hrs old and verified such as with a photo of someone holding a piece of paper with their name and "Steemit" and the date etc.

  3. Copy the link and paste it into the #projectnewbie chat channel, if it isn't there yet. The first person to add each new post is awarded a finders fee at the end of the week. Because this is calculated as a percentage of total rewards, it will vary.

Anyone can do this. Join us and build community.

Meet Some of the Unsung Heroes Greeting New Kids

Here's a little bit about a few of the awesome people who are going out of their way to welcome our newest Steemarians:

@anns: You’ve got to love anyone who recommends new users read the white paper, but she also posts mouth-watering recipes. Check out her recent No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies or her very timely introduction: Hello Steemians, Already Here, Now Intro

@hanamana: from his very first day, @hanamana was connecting with the #introduceyourself posts and giving sincere compliments showing he'd read their introductions. I Get all verklempt thinking of how sweet that is. He's brand new here, so check out his introduction post and help him feel the love. A special thanks to @barcisz and @billbutler for helping him post photos.

@crok has even started asking for donations to welcome new steemians with a recognition reward and due to his efforts over two dozen new steemians have received recognition rewards so far.

Wait, What's @wang?

For those newer to Steemit, you may not know that there used to be a bot called @wang who would greet new users with automatic messages including helpful links. For a variety of reasons, @wang has been retired. For more, read @klye’s a toast to @wang.

Don't Use Greeting Newbies As An Opportunity To Promote Your Blog

While it's likely your following will grow as a result of connecting with new users, don't be sleazy and spam links to your blog. They might drop you once they realize you preyed on their noobness. There are circumstances where linking to one of your own posts might be genuinely helpful. Remember, though, that new users may be focused on understanding their wallet and may not have the bandwidth for involved conversations, yet. I didn't know to check for replies until I read about it in the Minnow Code. Be understanding. Be at least as human as @wang.

Don't just say "Hi. Welcome to Steemit."

Of course you can and it's never a bad idea. Include a helpful link, a personal response to something they wrote, an upvote or all three.

CALL FOR PAPERS

We need a "How and Why to Verify" post to help excited new members gain every advantage of community trust. Creative ideas for how to verify without a selfie would inspire more users to do it. It would also be great to answer the following questions:

When is verification recommended?
Is verification ever strictly necessary in order to participate?
Can I be anonymous on Steemit?
What if someone flags my post?

If you know of a recent post that does this well, tell me about it. Maybe it only needs to be circulated. I'm eager to have an in-depth and authoritative post to share.

I just found out about Steemverify Maybe this is the answer.

Thanks For Reading!

@papa-pepper’s hotpepperchallenge. Do you dare?

We'll be putting out a post in the next day or so on verification. It will include when verification should be asked for. Until then check out the beginning of this @steemcleaners report.

While you don't have to use our post I would recommend following the main guidelines and respect a user's right to anonymity. Those asking for, and especially those demanding verification if it isn't warranted could be flagged by @steemcleaners.

Thank You! ☙

Perfect! A link! I'm collaborating with #steemprentice to put together a standard introduction post that #projectnewbie curators can share with new users. We'll definitely link to your post on verification. Is there any other information @steemcleaners would love every new user to have?

Hello,

I always try to welcome new users and find little ways to let people know I read their article. Sometimes, my vote doesn't mean a lot, other than to say, "I saw you". Which I think is important to new users. I have been frustrated at times by posting, and feeling like it may have gone to outerspace. I am starting to get some good followers now, and I want to "pay it forward".

I am not a fan of Verified Introductions, though, as I personally want to feel like I can write about many topics, some of which if my identity was known could cause me problems with my business.

Anyway, I love the efforts to let new users know there are those of us out there wanting them to have a great experience here.
Thank you for your work!

Thanks @whatsup! I definitely relate to wanting to pay it forward. I agree about photo verified introductions, too. If I had known I could remain anonymous, I would have. I appreciate your efforts, too. Maybe we could come up with a fun game or something that would involve new users. I have zero ideas currently, but am looking beyond the #projectnewbie channel.

That sound is my cat snoring loudly. Can't hear it? Listen closely. Oh, wait. He stopped.

I regularly browse these channels and will post in chat if I see a good one!

Thanks @meesterboom! We're just getting started and every bit helps so much. Really.

Very useful info for beginners, much appreciated. Have resteemed, cheers.

Thanks for re-steeming! With a post like this, more eyes is the whole point. Thanks again!

Please hook me up. I've been actively trying to meet and "expose" newbies, both for them and for me. And I'd love to be involved in a project more focused and powerful than my little efforts. Upvoted, resteemed, all that good stuff. :)

Wonderful! You'll get a DM from me tomorrow! If you want to start immediately, anyone can add links to the #projectnewbie channel. Yay!

A DM? Where do I look for that?

Oh! Of course. There's a way to direct message inside Steemit chat. I'm working on getting you added to the projectnewbie-curator channel, too. There won't be any pressure to show up at certain times or anything like that. Just a window in and the opportunity to collaborate to the extent that you have both inclination and time. :)

Okay, and I'm obviously a noob myself because I don't know about the #projectnewbie channel or even what a channel is. (It's not a tag, right? I couldn't seem to find a projectnewbie tag or anything like that.) I've also tried to "chat" in the chat area and didn't really get that, either. But I'll figure it out!

It's actually so helpful for me to slow down and realize that new users won't know this. I did get your message in chat! Woo-hoo!

I've been pretty bad about visiting the chatrooms but I have a feeling my timing is off. When I've been there it feels spammy with so many people simply posting a link to their blog without actually saying HI or interacting with anybody. Wham, Bam, Thank you, Ma'am. hmmph.

I would also love to add that posting links to your own blog doesn't have to be spammy if you're doing it right. If they're asking a question, a link is definitely helpful as long as it's appropriate and answers said question.
You guys are doing such good work and it's wonderful to see the Pay-It-Forward attitude. Feelin' the Steemit love

I think the promotional channel may always have a bit of that feeling. Hang out at #steemprentice for kicks. That's where the joy is. I just started hanging out there and it's all about helping each other with feedback. It's the (tear forming) community I came here to find.

Remember me when you're a dolphin! It's been awesome watching you develop your Steemit style.

And that is a good point that including links to your own blog can be done helpfully. It's the intention that comes across, I believe.

Yes! Community is my #1 priority. Working from home and budgeting with a one-car household has it's challenges on my ability to socialize. That's why I turn to the internet. It's the one thing that keeps me sane, especially when we've moved a lot. My friends go with me!

I had become such a recluse that I didn't even give close friends my new phone number. I didn't like the idea of feeling put upon to answer the phone! I lost my faith in strangers after a disappointing craigslist gig. I worked for an old lady who started to lose her rationality and began to increasingly turn on me in inexplicable ways. It was psychologically jarring. For a full year I wanted to kick the walkers out of the hands of the elderly at the grocery store. Once I started wanting to trust strangers again, Steemit was perfect. I liked that I was encouraged to show myself and be human. There's a Steemit type and it's simply good to be among so many like minds!

Thanks for mentioning me. By the way, I am a man....not that it makes any difference...lol

Oh wow! Thank you for telling me! I'll change that if I can still do it.

You only have 1hr time frame to edit your content...This feature need changed to be able edit anytime later.

I succeeded! Things are always magically improving here. I love being able to edit my posts! Check and make sure it took. It looks like it from here. (So embarrassed to have gotten your gender wrong. You even explained how you designed your handle in your introduction and I knew it wasn't your name. Still, I was envisioning a girl named Hannah! Silly me. :)

So, one is able to edit the post beyond 1 hour from ot was published?
Thanks for your effort.
Is there better place that i can communicate easier with you and all my other followers?

Wishing you the best :) Hope all new users find their whale of the dreams.

Congratulations @pulpably! You received a personal award!
