Garbage, garbage and oh - garbage

It's been a while since I spent a few good hours on Steemit reading articles from the "New" section and leaving all kind of comments. I used to do that a lot back in June this year, because I was able to find interesting articles from really nice people.

Now that's changed. It's different. If you go to the "New" section you'll see that 95% of the articles are either really really REALLY bad memes that have no logic, articles copied from a different website, shared videos and maybe some bad art that won't impress anyone.

The %5 that represents interesting articles, funny memes, funny jokes and videos worth watching are hard to find. They are being buried by all the bad content shared by people who hope to get on the "Trending" page for sharing an image.

It's sad that this is happening and the only great thing about this is that the community tries to take care of people who share bad content. They flag it, they make sure no one sees it and they bury it deep down where no one can find it.

But there will be more.

Over the years I had the pleasure to find a lot of amazing people on the Internet, people who I spent hours talking with and sharing ideas. I also consumed content made by creators who loved what they did and cared about their creation.

But while that happened, I also encountered all kind of kids believing they deserve everything good, people thinking they are a lot smarter than they actually are, all kind of offended personalities that screamed at you for everything you said and gamers who can't play a game for more than 5 minutes without insulting you.

I fear those type of people will join Steemit in the future hoping to get money, and this community will slowly be divided into two parts - the great people who are right now here, who will post high quality content and share interesting things, and a bunch of kids and adolescents who will spread toxicity all over simply because it's "fun".

This website will probably experience that and the community will have to fight against all the trolls and kids that will join hoping to get money and make fun of others. I don't know when (or if) that will happen, but I expect it.

I don't know if there's any conclusion to this article, I just wanted to share a few things that I think may happen in the future or that are already happening to some extent (like garbage content) and hopefully make you aware of that before it (or if it) happens.

If you're one of those creator who tries to come up with new and interesting content every day or shares interesting things that can teach us something, if you're a person who shares funny memes and writes amazing jokes or simply creates a type of content that makes our day more enjoyable - thank you!

Hi. I joined Steemit a few months ago and have yet to do my first post. I usually look for good post that are interesting to me and try to comment and vote for them. I fear that by the time I find the time to actually write my own posts, Steemit could be full of too much trash :( I hope that at least those of us who want to keep the community rolling out good content worth reading, will support one another. Thanks for sharing! Fallowed Up Voted and ReSteemed!

Hi and thanks for the support.

Sadly the more popularity Steemit is getting, the more people who don't care about what they create join, sharing stupid little things like bad memes or videos hoping to get money and that will get a lot worse in the future.

I suggest you start creating content soon, because God knows how this website will end up in around a year after more people join.

We should all indeed do our best to create nice things and to support those who are trying their best to come up with good content, but that's gonna be harder and harder in the future because of all the kids and trolls who will join hoping to get thousands of dollars.

Hopefully that won't happen but no matter what the future will bring, we should do what you said - support one another.

Thank you for the comment, upvote, resteem and follow! :)

Agreed. When looking to curate content from the new section now it takes alot longer to find something worth while.

Yeah, now it's choosing something from either the "Trending" or the "Hot" section. Otherwise you're gonna spend some good 30 minutes trying to find something actually interesting on the "New" section.

Hopefully people will realize that's not the way to do it and will change the type of content they create in the future. If not, I guess we'll have to stay away from the "New" section for a while.
