The Average Steemit User's Age is 30! - The Hidden Strength of Steemit.

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

The average age on Steemit. Something that is not discussed at all so far but it should.
It's one of the most bizarre, surprising and EXCITING indicators we have as of now.

I am fascinated by the graphs on steemit. So obviously that this post caught my attention.
As I was going over the data, something struck out to me....the average age was really high. Can this be true?!

Well...wow! This is almost unheard of for a social media start-up!

Sure, the data is incomplete but I think it's a big enough sample that we're can totally draw this conclusion:

The average steemit user is an ADULT!

We're talking about early adopters here so that's pretty revolutionary to me and a reason why this could be exactly what will take steemit beyond anything we can imagine.

Let's look at snapchat's 2016 distribution now:

That looks still geared toward young people but when it lunched?

. In April 2013, only 2% of those 35 and older used Snapchat, compared with 5% of those 25 to 34 years old and 24% of those 18 to 24 years old.

Of course most social networks mature and more 30yold+ join but at the start it's usually young people.
Maybe that's good for their models, maybe they can attract more advertiser but in the long run, the crux is this: young people are poor and always looking for the next "cool"thing.
The money are in the 30-50 demographic. And steemit has a lot of them.

If trends continue, they might even have the most!

Look at this graph:

It's not unthinkable that in 6 months, steemit to make the list and also to be the most popular place for people over 30 to be on.

I think this bodes very well for Steemit.

This is just..surprising to me.

And it's not only about the money either, it's about maturity.
We[ i'm 31 ] grew up as the internet matured, so we've seen a lot of sites rise and fall and we are not easily impressed. Yet, here we all are, half-losing our minds at the awesomeness of this all!
We are not kids that have a "crush", this is something else.
This is SERIOUS.

Reading the comments:

The idea that the community is better on steemit vs say, tumblr, reddit is that being older we are over the need to prove online how "cool and smart" we are. We're more about substance/essence than we are about ego.
Just another unseen benefit of these statistics, working behind the doors, pushing, pushing us into the right direction.
A a great great sign i'd say :)

In conclusion, another graph from @lukmarcus.
As you can see, a lot of over 30 people are joining in and the trend should continue.

This is very helpful to the community steemit. thanks for sharing @razvanelulmarin

Well, what I do believe is that the community is great because we're all adults and not kids trying to prove how "smart" and "cool" we are. I'm gonna edit this in the post actually!

how did you grab this data?

Nice graphs you have here. Thanks for sharing these graphics with us.Of course, I will Upvote it.

Yeah, how did you collect it?

I will replay, because I think it's question for me. Graph is for top 50 most popular introductions. You can see it here. It was collected by reading introductions or searching internet. Sometimes by directly asking the author.

Really interesting data! It would be nice with a profile page on Steemit where we could add basic info such as age, location, profile picture etc.

Good job anyway. Looking forward to more articles like this!

I do hope this is coming..and then, we'll see the whole picture :)

I'm interested to see what these graphs will look like in a 6 months to a year. I hope it remains a platform for an adult crowd, so the comment section doesn't deteriorate in the random posting of gifs. :)

I am 24, hope I am welcome as well :P

oh. you certainly are! welcome!!!

Very interesting post. How do you determine the age of the users?

I will replay, because I think it's question for me. Graph is for top 50 most popular introductions. You can see it here. It was collected by reading introductions or searching internet. Sometimes by directly asking the author.

Thanks @lukmarcus. I missed the link in the original post.

Nice bro, but from a sample size of 50 users whose introduction posts were in the top 50.

I can't see how that's significant.

Maybe it isn't? but to me it seems that supports my own observations and that's why give it credit. We'll have more data as soon as we can and people will enter their age in their profiles. I'm looking forward to see those results :)

Yeah I'm the 2% group.... Yes I'm 56 and still learning new things everyday like Steemit! You got my Upvote... Keep Steemin on my friend... @kbargold

Wow! impressed!
