The festive period is fast approaching. People are looking for sharp and easy means to defraud the unenlightened.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO GET SCAMMED!!
Apparently, the hustle seems to be more real than ever.
While folks are legitimately working their asses off, to earn and get paid legitimately; some other people are hell bent on duping people of their hard earned finances.
The scourge of corruption apparently isn't restricted to a particular gender or geographical location. It isn't even restricted to the poor or needy, even the high and mighty have now been fingered in scams of diverse nature; as has been experienced on our beloved #steemit platform.
Scamming seems to be the order of the day now.
People are busy scamming, and people are falling for the scams.
The scam instance depicted here, is from a fake @freedom in steemit.chat.
The fake @freedom uses a "dot" sign after the freedom, as in - [ @freedom. ]......in steemit.chat
I do not know how many people must have fallen for the scammer in steemit.chat, but i believe it would be sad to have to lose some SBD or Steem through a dubious means; as perpetrated by the fake @freedom who goes by [ @freedom. ] on steemit.chat.
Below is a screen-shot of his or her scam attempt on me:
Him or Her started the convo by hitting me with the @freedom's wallet details....I played along from the beginning, still uncertain as to whether i was actually chatting with the real @freedom
He apparently figured i wasn't a newbie and that i knew what a delegated SP wallet looked like. Then he or she decided to feature the "so-called" second account......which seemed like the @utopian-io wallet.
And then he or she dropped the much anticipated line....."Send 7 SBD....bla bla bla"
I asked for the offered upvote first, before paying....and even told him to remove the upvote, if i didn't pay
The scammer didn't want to give-up and admit that i'd called his bluff and caught him by the tail. Instead he or she showed me the @utopian-io logo, mimicking the real @utopian-io account.
I eventually lost interest in the charade and didn't bother responding. The scammer still didn't want to give-up and offered to comment on my post with "@utopian-oi"..... - letter "o" before the "i" (a pawn of the real spelling of the @utopian-io account itself)
Needless to say, i didn't fall for his or her scam. But apparently the person in question has been using the fake @utopian-oi username to send and solicit for 7 SBD, while offering a-never-to-arrive upvote.
Further investigation on the account would show that the scammer had successfully scammed a particular victim, and also sent messages to other steemians
In Summary:
Please be careful of fake usernames that mis-represent the real steemit accounts of popular #whales....and who message and offer you upvotes in exchange for SBD or STEEM*
People have been falling victim, and there's no evident solution to the scamming scourge going on via the platform at the moment.
