Mamaka then rushed to one Lamin, who usually treated people locally using herbs to see if there was something she could do before her husband returned, but unfortunately, Lamin had gone to the bush to collect some herbs with which to treat her patient who was beaten by a snake.
“Awwww! Why have the gods decided to treat me like this? If only I had a child, will be looking for my husband to take care of me? Look at my mate with her children; they saw me in so much pain and yet acted like I was not even existing. Where is my child, what are you doing in the spirit world? Do you want me to die of mockery before you come to me?” Mamaka cried in that lonely path, on her way home.

As she arrived home, her husband had already returned, and immediately he saw her, he started to abuse her over her inability to bear him a child or more children that would support his farm work to make him a titled man.
“Awww! My dear husband, is that the way you want to receive me when I have gone everywhere in search of a medicine to cure my injury? This is unfair, my dear husband.” Mamaka said.
Bakary did not even look in her direction as he focused on his cutlass which he sharpened in order to go to the farm that evening.
Out of anger, Bakary refused to allow Mamaka into his chamber henceforth, and that further broke Mamaka’s heart. She wondered how she was going to bear a child when her husband had suddenly abandoned her.
For months, Mamaka stayed alone in her hut mourned, but no one cared to look in her direction. Instead, Barkisu and her children cashed in on her condition to laugh at her more.

One day, as Bakary returned from the farm with Barkisu’s children, he realized that Mamaka was lying on the floor. He first pretended as though he did not notice her, but each time he looked her way, he was convinced that such was the manifestation of a pregnant woman. He worried in his heart.
“Does that mean that this woman had gone to another man for a child? No! This cannot happen in my house, not when I am still alive”, he thought.
Finally, he gathered courage to beckon on Mamaka, which he had not done for months. As he shouted, Mamaka was still groaning, like a woman about to be delivered of a child.
In order not to allow her die under his roof, Bakary dragged Mamaka to the native doctor, who usually administered local herbs in their village, but to his utmost dismay, the man pronounced Mamaka pregnant. In fact, she was already at the delivery stage.
“No! This cannot happen. This is a woman I have not touched for months, how did she become pregnant? She has to explain to me”, Bakary raged.
“If you ask me”, advised the medicine man, “l would have suggested that you take her to the midwife who can take care of her now. Maybe when she’s through with this, you can then ask her how she became pregnant, but what I must tell you, is that this woman, is about to put to bed, so hurry up.”
Reluctantly, Bakary took Mamaka to the midwife, and within few seconds, Mamaka had a baby girl. Most people could not even come out to welcome the baby with the normal village tunes which they sang whenever a new baby was born, because they concluded that the baby must be an evil child.
Bakary waited patiently for Mamaka to return home after a few days, so that he could ask the pressing questions. He had also hid his cutlass under his bed, in case there may be need to use it on Mamaka if she failed to provide answers as to how came the baby.
Days later, as was the custom, someone had to prepare food for Mamaka with hot pepper and some traditional leaves to make her strong, and since her own mother was already late, Barkisu had to take on that responsibility.
