The fishermen had been working fruitlessly in the Lagoon for days. They had cast their nets several times into the lagoon hoping to catch a handful of fishes.
“This is badluck "The youngest of them grumbled in frustration.
“Stop saying that! Don’t you know that there are evil spirit around that listen to our conversation?” The eldest of them cautioned.

“They can take action and inflict bad luck on us.” He continued.
“Let us appease the gods.”
A bearded man suggested.
“That may be tomorrow.” The eldest fisherman said.
Soon they started feeling something heavy underneath the water dragging the net. They all joined forces and pulled the net out. Behold! It was a large water seal, which they called water elephant. Quickly they sent for the town crier.
Five minutes later the town crier went round the village dispatching his message to the villagers. Telling them that a sea elephant had been caught and that women and children are forbidden to see this creature. Any women who sees it will die instantly.

This message prompt women and children to run helter- skelter into there various houses and closed their doors. You dare not peep through any opening. Sade travelled out of the village for a church program in a town several miles away. However she was returning on that very day of the event. Unaware of what was going on she met the traditionalists pulling the seal out of the boat.
“Alas! Taboo!! a woman has seen the seal!!!.” They cried as soon as they sighted Sade.
They chased her as she took to her heel. They finally caught her and summoned her to the king for judgement.
They believed that any woman will die instantly on seeing the seal. But they were astonished that sade was still alive. In other to make the superstition real and not to make the gullible villagers distrust them so they decided to kill her secretly. She was kept in a wooden prison were she eventually escaped through the help of her lover Wale.
