Once upon a time in the land of lunga, there existed a river known as ‘mtsinje-lunga’. Occupants of other around used to visit the river in particular purpose even when they had their own rivers. Whereas the people of lunga barely even considered or recognized their river, except in the case of scarcity when the other rivers may have gone dry. Then they would remember mtsinje lunga, which hardly ran dry.
It was said that mtsinje-lunga always had water because when the other rivers in the neighbourhood ran out of water, they had only visited the mtsinje-lunga, which on its own did not leave its abode to visit any other river.

Some of the elders, who at some points had witnessed when the neighbouring rivers visited mtsinje-lunga, told the story of how scary it was to witness the Lunga river, and later depart to their various communities.
They also noted that most times when the other rivers visited, the rainbow often fell down at the mtsinje-lunga with the evidence of a horrible smoke which stood still until the rivers had concluded their meetings or whatever they did together before it disappeared back to the sky and eventually faded away.
