TAX - just a money making exercise!
I am not a government fan, particularly the current (UK) one, but from a government viewpoint, why tax (anything) if you are not prepared to enforce the collection thereof?
Is tax not a money making exercise in the first place?
“The enforcement has increased revenue for the government but will anger motoring organisations who argue that enforcing vehicle tax has become a money-making exercise. About £5.9bn a year is raised from VED.” ~ Rajeev Syal (The Guardian 24th July 2017)
I was under the impression that when the HMRC chase tax cheats big and small, one of the incentives is to recover money it is owed and set an example those who may be tempted to cheat the system. I will be interested to read exactly which "motoring organisations" will be angered by these figures if indeed they are.
