STEEMZINE #12 - Incorrect Tagging On Steemit Will Isolate Your Post
This is going to be a short edition but with a really important message. Each day we do a post which is called “The Best Of Steem” we browse through content trying to find posts worth reading and worth sharing. In our pursuit to bring this post to everyone, we find that one thing is for sure.....
Incorrect Tagging does damage to Steemit and your post.
When someone is searching for a particular tag, they want to see content about that tag not content that is completely unrelated.
Tag Your Posts Right
If you can’t find a tag that fits your post, make it up. Put it where it should be. Just because it is not listed on the side bar, does not mean you shouldn’t use it.
I can’t count how many times we are trawling through particular tags and we get content which has no relevance at all. This results in one thing
Incorrect Tagging Isolates Your Post
We literally have to scroll and scroll through the masses on here to find the good stuff. We love finding the great content, but each and everyone of us can do our bit in this respect and simply. ....
Tag Your Post Correctly
Thanks and we hope you follow our lead on this one! It will make for a better community.
I've been worried about how far my reach extends because the articles I've been writing are about topics that are not extremely popular on Steem, but today I've managed to put that fear aside. One of my posts has earned over $8, which is amazing considering my next most profitable post is only worth $0.03. I always tag my articles true to their topic.
The good news is that you made more from this comment than from your posts. Good well thought out comments are well paid. Keep up the food work!
All my work is food work #buffalowings #bacon the 2 food groups
Haha your right. Hey why not check out my blog post here. It's the most work by far I've ever put into a post but it's not doing so well. Maybe an upvote by you will put me over the top!

Beautiful! @comcentrate perfect example. Tagging correctly works and it is so helpful for those who want to curate and find content! Glad you are being rewarded for it
Yes, tag is important, it is like folder in our personal computer, so that's make people easy to search relevant topic, also your posting have right target reader.
Good post with important information. Remember that using improper or deceptive tags run the risk of being flagged and then you ruin your reputation. Not good. Before submitting a post go through all the categories and write down up to 5 that most describe your post. List them in order with the first being the one that fits the best. As written above, if necessary, make a new category!
I think we need a prominent new person guide. A link at the top, that goes away after the make x number post or something.
Something like that could work, I think the way in which content is ranked and explored will improve with time. Ultimately quality content is going to win out...it is just a matter of time. But, until that point, tagging correctly will be a step in the right direction @melek
i tagged mine steemit when apparently it should have been photography first :( didnt know order mattered :(
Wrongly tagged post of mine
regardless of the order of tags the post will still appear in that category. I think if the post has nothing to do with steem or steemit it should only be tagged what it is relevant too. Just our two cents. Too much great content is being lost as a result
I am going wait and watch...excited.
I'll get my "tags" right one of these days.... Don't give up on me Steemzine :)
:) we wont!!
Thank you for the reminder! :-)
pleasure :)
Exactly, one of the first things I learned (and asked about) on steemit was tagging etiquette. Most of mine go in life, success, inspiration.
The larger the community grows, the more this needs to be known! At the beginning we did the same thing..but its pretty clear that it's a problem. @scaredycatguide
I look forward to a more complete director, maybe one that auto adds new categories when a certain number o tag uses is reached? At any rate, I totally agree and have been trying to be as specific as possible in my tag usages.
@markrmorrisjr I think that will happen with time. I also think a more progressive ranking structure of content will also help the cause. As there are so many posts just with a single image in them or two lines of text. Then the good stuff goes amiss! time will tell!
I think the vote weighting needs to be adjusted as well to take audience size into consideration. At some point when you have more than a certain number of votes, even from plankton, that deserves reward.
I've seen bad tagging on other sites and it just makes tags useless. At least we can vote those posts down here
Sure does - Instagram is a perfect example of that.
