Hang in there

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Anyone else struggling for reward? I know you are. Well, most of you. Sometimes, I write these kinds of posts to remind myself that there is a long-term plan here. For me at least. People that have been doing this longer seem to think that Steem is going to hit the moon, a few have even mentioned the sun. It doesn't feel like it at the moment though does it?

What I remind myself when I post is that for this site to do well in the long-term, it requires content. But not just any content, fresh content that isn't all reposted from other platforms. I think this because the other platforms will eventually pull the availability of their content to Steemit if it starts generating more profits here than there. If Steemit is reliant on external services and content providers, the plugs can be pulled.

So, I do what I can to provide original content. A small act in the nature of things to be sure, but these small acts add up I think. Only when a large proportion of Steemit is able to produce content independently can we really say that this is a decentralized platform as then it can stand on its own feet without the feeder content sites. This may be a while away at this rate as not only does the development take time, many content providers source their material externally and may have no choice.

At some point though, Steemit is going to step on some fat toes. Value will be generated that the big players will want a piece of and when that day comes, it may get nasty. Deep pockets are going to hire many developers, content sites are going to limit access and a whole range of government action is going to try to dig through the financials. By that time, we have to be able to say, 'Fuck you'. If we can get to that situation and survive, we have proven the point and then we have a rocket, then we are a decentralized force to be reckoned with. At least, this is the story I keep telling myself.

I figure, these small numbers will look much bigger in the light of the sun.

So, hang in there Taraz...

I remember hanging in there for the first 11 months, but then after the hardfork all of a sudden my posts started earning more money, and it was awesome!

But yes, I also think the fascists who control sites like fakebook will try to dish out some hurt...

For that picture, you are first on their list :)

There are a thousand ways that this platform could succeed and a million ways it could fail. It's an incredibly complicated ecosystem. The potential is unlimited but it's also very fragile.

I do find it hard to bring in the payout that I feel I deserve sometimes, but we live in a world where money's ability to attract more money is much more reliable than good content can attract money. Steemit won't be any different unless we make it different so I try to stay focused on building a sense of community, understanding and strong friendships with like minded users. It's hard to focus sometimes with all the distractions, but you will notice that when you do, your rewards sometimes improve as a side effect, which is nice.

well put, and if we all stick together and vote for each other and for the worthwhile stuff instead of something that just happens to generate more money now then that worthwhile stuff will also make financial sense

so here is me hanging on

STEEMING ON

:) That's the plan... If only others followed suit.

I'm in agreement with ya'll about original content but it seems to go unnoticed. Patience is an important aspect to Steemit. I also believe it needs to be more than just tanking through gaining steem power like your playing a role playing game. I'm new and tracking what I am doing and the results.

I would say that I have a long way to go to make a big splash. That's not complaining just realizing it may take time. Today, was the day I thought all my 7 day curations would start being deposited but since my vote power was exhausted that plan doesn't seem to be working.

Knowing that I'm learning is more important than a few extra steem dollars. :)

It will get there in time I think/hope but at the moment it doesn't feel great.

3 Rules:

  1. Original Content
  2. Original Content
  3. Original Content

and then, rinse and repeat.

You know much more than I do. I appreciate the insight. I will resteem.

Always appreciated :)
I know nothing, but if I repeat it enough others will follow and it may become something ;)

Thank you for this encouraging post and motto to "Hand in There"! I really like your point of creating original content just on Steemit and just copied content posted on other sites.

I think this was the original point of the site, there just aren't that many willing to spend the time to create.

waoo nice

Great post, original content. Will resteem doctor.
