Some people are turned off by the requirement of a phone number. But that makes some sense for steemit as opposed to steem. So look forward to other ways to use steem like steemit with different barriers.
Yes I think it is tricky. If there are no hurdles to jump over then it good be gamed with lots of spam accounts.
