I teach philosophy for a living
and I know that as Hindu, Gandhi ascribes to the vedic notion of Atman (real self or mind or soul)
Hence, the constant refrain of corporal renunciation.
The self (the mind) is permanent.
Hence, despite the death of the body, the mind (or soul or self or Atman) remains.
