Steemit removed the ability to see who downvoted posts, it seems that this platform is not moving in the direction of decentralization.

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Now when large holders of Steem Power downvote a post it is no longer evident and missing from the list of voters.  This further reduces the ability to determine who bad actors are with their own agenda.  It seems that the people who run Steem are striving for the ability to govern all aspects of this platform with an iron fist.  Actions like this are not conducive to developing a free and open environment for ideas to flourish.  This is secret censorship.

There should be transparency around the way people vote.

If you are wondering who downvoted your last post, it was me, as was obvious from the comments. Note that you can plug into the api and see the info you're looking for.

Or you can use Steemd, a great resource.

Cheers! Good luck!

I knew it was you on that other post and you have a right to feel that way, I just find it disconcerting that Steemit is moving in this direction. I guess other platforms may pop up which will be more transparent, hopefully. I wrote a post about this issue a few days ago.

Cheers.

Everything is on the blockchain. Steemit.com is just 1 of many interfaces to that blockchain. Steemit can do whatever they want with how they display the data but it will always be completely viewable in its entirety directly from the blockchain or from some other site that choose to display things differently.

I'm actually quite pro not having downvotes so visible.

I have downvoted posts in the past, for good reasons such as plagiarism, and then the author and his friends have proceeded to downvote everything that I have authored. At least less visibility might stop this eye for an eye problem. Excuse that pun.

You may see all data in raw format (including downvotes) on steemd.com blockchain explorer.

Just change "steemit" on "steemd" in URL of your steemit.com article and you will get the full data.

For example, here is this article link on STEEM block explorer: https://steemd.com/steemit/@wpalczynski/steemit-removed-the-ability-to-see-who-downvoted-posts-it-seems-that-this-platform-is-not-moving-in-the-direction-of

I think they are testing out formats. As Steemit grows we may see things added or removed again.

This is a fundamental piece of information that should not be removed if this is to be an open platform.

interesting, im not sure exactly what this means but i can see both sides, people will trust a forum more with all info visible to all at a glance, then we are ALL EQUALLY invested and responsible for our actions, and must be able to back them up and stand by decisions publicly,, but equally, if you do downvote a post for legitimate reasons , others can then downvote everything you do, so perhaps, to make it take a little effort is prudent, or we might all be afraid to pipe up.
