STEEMIT CULINARY CHALLENGE #42: Walnut Rosemary Honey Wholemeal Bread
Hey foodies!
For this week's steemit culinary challenge I thought my recipe for Walnut Rosemary Honey Wholemeal Bread would perfectly fit as delicious bread. Everybody loves it! It tastes incredible with some butter spread on top.
What I love about this bread is that is whole grain but at the same time so moist and soft. Whole grain bread is so much better for you - I could go on and on about it. But some whole grain breads are dry and really not that appetizing for me. That is why I am so in love with this recipe. Additionally, the flavour combo of walnut and rosemary is so awesome. It goes so well together. The honey coats the roasted walnuts in a way as if it is some sort of candy. So, if you bite into a piece of bread you have that little bit of crunch. And in my opinion, food is not only a matter of taste but also of texture.
If you are a vegan you can simply leave out the honey or replace it with any vegan liquid sweetener. I personally love to subtly sweet flavour the honey gives this bread. So, I really recommend it to use some sort of sweetener in this recipe.
I want to shout out a big thank you to @woman-onthe-wing for hosting this awesome challenge and this week's host @jaymorebeet for coming up with this great theme for this week!
Walnut Rosemary Honey Wholemeal Bread
Ingredients
- 500 g wholemeal flour
- 1 package of dried yeast
- 330 g warm water
- 125 g walnuts
- 1 tbsp rosemary, dried
- 2 tbsp honey
- pinch of salt
Directions
Put water, yeast and flour into a bowl. I used my handy breadmaker and put all in the baking dish.
Chop up walnuts.
Roast chopped walnuts and rosemary with a pinch of salt in a pan.
Add honey to the pan.
Add roasted walnuts, rosemary and honey to the bread mix.
Create a dough and kneed it. Or leave the hard work to a breadmaker.
Let it rest for an hour. My breadmaker did this for me.
Put the dough into a baking dish (or form a loaf and place on baking tray lined with baking sheets). Let it rise there for another half an hour. Bake at 200 °C for about 45 minutes. My breadmaker is a pro when it comes to baking bread and did this also for me. The result is amazing. I highly recommend to invest into a breadmaker when you want to bake bread often.
Enjoy!
Woooah! I love home made bread and when I look for your entry, I can't wait for my entry for SCC, exactly for eating bread haha ^^ Good luck ! :)
Eating home made bread is one of my fav hobbies too ;) Good luck to you too!
Ohh @alinalisa! What a great entry to kick off this week's SCC! I absolutely love the walnuts being coated in honey before they go into the mix, and using the hearty wholemeal I'm sure adds a nuttiness and great depth of flavor. The rosemary sounds like a great hint of savory which probably makes this bread delicious as sandwich bread, or as you mentioned smeared with some salty butter. Excellent entry, and fabulous photos!
Oh my gosh, thank you for your really quick and lovely comment @jaymorebeet!
All you said is completely right - I totally agree with you. :) I am a big fan of this recipe!
I hope my entry is sort of what you have expected from this week's SCC. Thanks for hosting the challenge this week and creating this theme.

This loaf of bread is full of good stuff for our body and soul. You know how to eat well and healthy. With your entries, you could easily put together a health guidebook.
Oh thank you so much for those kind words. I appreciate that you think of me that way! :)
I am looking forward to your entry!
This looks fabulous, I will add this to my long, long list to try. Good luck in the challenge @alinalisa
Thank you so much @gringalicious! Sorry for being so absent last week. I am so happy that I won the 5th prize! :)
That's a lovely looking loaf there @alinalisa! I agree with you that even freshly baked wholemeal bread available in wholefoods stores can be quite dry, which is why I do the same thing as you and add things to make it more moist. I think perhaps the oiliness of nuts helps, as does honey, and from what I can see in your photos that looks the perfect moistness! I think toasted nuts taste waaaay nicer, seems to bring out the flavour, so when I saw your honey-toasted walnuts it made me go 'oooooooh!' and with the flavour of rosemary too... delicious. Lovely, crusty, moist, textured, and with a fabulous rounded shape too... yum :-) Great photos as well. Good luck!
Thank you so much for your lovely words @woman-onthe-wing! I am so glad that you like my result and the post about it. :)
For such a beautiful loaf @jaymorebeet decided to donate a 5th prize of 5SBD to you @alinalisa! Congratulations!
Thank you so much! I am totally thrilled by these news! :D
