Why Mesut Never Become Rich? A 7th Grade Story in Improving Simple Past Tense
Once upon a time in the neighboring country, there lived a man in the land of Sabah. His name is Mesut. He's a lazy but resourceful guy. His intelligence is often used to support his laziness. Mesut has been married. Lulu the name of his wife.
One day, Mesut and his wife go to Mount Kinabalu to pray for good things. They want to become rich. One day while they were praying, god comes to them. The god says, “I will give you two wishes. You must discuss your wishes with your wife.”
Mesut and his wife talk about the two wishes. Mesut hope to be rich, but his wife thinks that a lot of rice would be more useful. They disagree and finally Kabayan is so annoyed that he said, “ I wish the god would change you into a monkey.”
His wish is granted and he see his wife become a monkey. Mesut knows he had made a mistake. He wishes to have his wife back again. Immediately his wife stands before him. He Smiled.
Mesut’s two wishes are gone and so he and his wife remain poor all their life. Mesut and his wife go home to their hometown with empty hands and despair, without getting what they want and hope for. And go back to their lives as in poorness.
Mesut’s father-in-law orders him to bring the corn from the garden into the house. Mesut is too lazy to carry the corn himself. He ties the corn to a piece of bamboo. Then he hops on to his horse and puts the bamboo across his shoulder.
His father-in-law sees Mesut and asks him, “Why are you sitting on the horse and carrying the corn across your shoulder?”
Mesut says, “Ah, the corn would be too heavy to the horse. So, I carried the corn instead, while the horse could bring me home.” His father-in-law reply, “Poor man. He will have no future.”
