You must be responsible if you want to be given responsibility.
Today as I was standing around at Taco Bell waiting for my food to be prepared I couldn't help but overhear a conversation.
Three young gentleman were seated at one of those half booth half table spots talking about how they were getting along with life.

One gentleman that was seated in the booth part of the table was leading the conversation.
"I guess they wanted to make an example out of me. I didn't know."
The others nodded their heads.
"I'm telling you man I did not know. I did not know at all."
Another man piped up.
"Sometimes they do what they do and it's just what happens."
I was curious what had happened.
The lead man explained that he had gotten a job at KFC but he had not taken it very seriously.
"Sure I showed up more than 30 minutes late everyday, but I didn't know. You know what I mean?"
The other men nodded approvingly.
I, on the other hand, did not know what he meant. How can you show up more than 30 minutes late everyday to your job and expect to not lose it?
"I guess they needed to make an example out of somebody and they decided it should be me. I didn't fight it because I didn't want to look like some kind of a jerk. However, I don't think it was fair that I was the one that got fired."
The other men were on the same page.
"I'm telling you man, I didn't know."
"Yeah I was late everyday, like sometimes about an hour late, and it was frustrating my workmates....... but they didn't have to go telling on me or nothing like that."
"I guess that's the price you pay for trying to get by in life, you know what I'm saying man?"
I was kind of floored by this man's nonchalant attitude about being irresponsible.
You can't be late for work. Especially when other people are relying on you being on time.
Yet this man did not understand why he was fired in the least bit.
I honestly think we might be raising a generation of young people that just don't understand what it means to be responsible.
It is quite troubling.
Before I left I looked at the man and tried to remember his face. If I ever get in a position where I am running a company I will certainly not be hiring him.

The entitled always have excuses.
That they do.
Sometimes you can hate responsibility and then it is taken from you. It is at this moment you truly come to realize that how much you loved the benefits you reaped from shouldering that responsibility.
It's okay to change your mind about doing something as long as you do it the responsible way. This young man was headed towards his own destruction and he didn't even know it.
no responsibility and of the other side only complaining. WTF is that for an attitude to work? is this our new generation 4.0? I grew up with totally different attitude and i learnt early in my life what means to have responsibility to people, to myself or whatelse.
so the layoff is the one of the right consequences for this gentleman.

Unfortunately I do think that this is what our current generation is like. It's pretty frustrating but at the same time I do see a couple of people here and there that are really making good progress with their lives. I guess you just have to shake out all the bad seeds. Where they go, no one knows.
don't be to hard with the people, especially the youth. I see here in dominican republic a lot of progress. Let's give them a change.

Maybe he was just trying to save face after getting fired? I do agree. I hate hearing people give excuses for not getting things done. Being late to a job all the time means you're gonna get fired eventually.
The whole thing was kind of surreal. It was like he as saying man, I did all this terrible stuff and yet they fired me anyway.
