Science at home! Fun homemade experiments for the little ones. Today we will learn about the Resistance!

Hello friends!! the education of our children is fundamental for us as parents and that is why we always have to look for the best teaching tools that help us transmit knowledge in a practical and fun way. The experiments at home are a very valuable tool that we have to take advantage of, they offer us infinite possibilities that we must use to teach.

Today we will perform a fun experiment what the little ones will love

In which we learn about Resistance.

In this fun experiment, kids will have fun playing with their own hair, because if they've ever gone to a circus and seen acrobats hanging from their hair, they wonder! Wow how is it possible that the hair is so strong. Today you can learn and see how strong a single hair can be

To carry out this experiment, my beautiful daughter Sofia

Before we start the fun we will study an important term:

What is resistance:

Resistance is understood as the action in which a person, animal, thing or organism resists or has the ability to resist, that is, to stand firm or in opposition. Source

Now if we see what it is and what we need:

Materials:

  • We need hair about 5 cm long, it is not necessary to tear it out of our heads since more than 100 hairs fall out regularly every day, so we can't search the brush that we regularly use to comb our hair.

  • We need books, boxes or some object that have the same height (in our case we end up using two chairs)

  • A pencil

  • Scotch tape

  • One click

  • A plastic bag

  • Marbles or coins

  • If you prefer And it is to your liking other people's hair other than you to check the resistance.

Let's go with the procedure:

  • The first thing we have to do is take a hair and roll it right in the middle of the pencil and hold it with the adhesive tape.
  • Then the other end of the hair we must hold it in the clip making a knot or placing another piece of adhesive tape.
  • Then clip the plastic bag you got for the experiment to the clip.

  • Then hold pencil and pull the bag to check how the hair holds it

  • Stack books or place a couple of boxes that are the same height, or a couple of chairs leaving a space between them for the bag to fit.

  • Then put the pencil with the hair and the bag hanging in the middle of the stack of books or chairs

  • Then start putting marbles or coins in the bag to see how resistant the hair is

  • Once the hair breaks, remove the bag and check that it weighs resist before breaking

  • You can repeat the experiment with other people's hair to check which one has more resistance.

Result of the experiment:

Hair @lasocia: The experiment started with my hair and it turned out to be stronger than tough than I thought, my daughter Sofía managed to put 10 pieces between marbles and coins, she could not understand how the hair resisted so much and did not burst.

Sofia hair: Then it was my daughter Sofía's turn, we put a total of 6 pieces in bag 4 less than what we put in @lasocia bag.

So my hair turned out to be much more resistant than my daughter Sofía's.

What has happened?

A single hair measures approximately 0.1mm, this is why it is surprising that such a thin thing can have so much resistance, this is why we must know that the hair has three layers:

  • The first part of the hair is the inner layer called the medulla and it is the most fragile part of the hair.

  • The second part of the hair is the intermediate one called the cortex and it is the thickest of all, and it is made up of keratin, which is why there are so many hair products that contain this element.

  • And the third part is the external one that is as if they were scales that make the hair more solid and have both resistance and resistance.

As you can see the Home Experiments can be very useful when using them as a teaching and learning tool, we as parents have the responsibility to offer our children the best possible education, for which we should look for the most appropriate strategies, our little ones they are full of curiosity and they love seeing new things and that is a point in our favor, the Experiments Cases gives us a universe of our knowledge. The opportunity to learn while having fun, just do not think about it anymore and put it into practice.
