Let Little Children Learn!

Children are never too young to learn new things, in fact, it is during the first few years of life that they absorb information faster than any other stage in a lifespan. One thing you can do to encourage learning is to simply let your children play! Play is a way for these little guys to figure out life and the things they learn from these childish games are just simply amazing!

These days it is not uncommon for parents to send children to playgroups or daycare though, where more formal activities are prepared for the kids. This is usually applied to toddlers from ages two and up, where they are able to move and have more of an interest in planned games and lessons.

Early intervention in educating children can make a huge difference on how they learn in later years. Through this intervention we can already start to pinpoint a childs strengths and weaknesses as well as what their hidden talents might be. I am by no means saying that we must not allow our children to simply be children, but by paying attention to their learning from early on has great advantages.

Apart from learning new things, by allowing the little ones to socialize from a young age, you can help them to develop social skills and confidence. Often, we keep our kids at home for as long as possible, protecting them from the world, but in essence, we are doing them more harm than good. By the time they get to primary school, they will be lost and afraid.

In most schools, even playgroups, teachers pay attention to how their learners interact and socialize. They activities they apply usually have a lot to do with getting the kids to interact and discover each other. The following techniques are often applied:

  • Classes are divided into groups. This way children are more likely to actually notice their peers.

  • Participation is encouraged, but not forced.

  • Social preferences can be discovered through interactions.

  • Leaders are created.

Whatever you do, keep learning fun! Kids have years and years of studying ahead of them, so while they are this little, allow them to learn through movement, using their senses and through play. Spend time with your children and encourage them to grow by taking advantage of what interests them.

I'm a preschool teacher and couldn't agree with you more. Children definitely learn through play! I wish they would continue this ideology throughout the grade levels! Thanks for your post.

Love your kids
