Oh boy oh boy ... Surprise everyone!
Oh boy oh boy ... I have been keeping a secret from the Steemit community for far too long ... I am very excited to announce that we are expecting our first child (it's a boy) in May 2018.
Come think about it, my unborn child is as old as @jaybird 's baby (a.k.a. the Steemit Sandwich Contest). And, I am proud to share that my little boy actually grew up eating all the sandwiches I had made so far for this contest.
On a more serious note though, I am both excited and scared. Obviously, excited because we are having a child. But scared because as first time parents, I fear that I do not know enough to know what I don't know.
Perhaps, my fears come from the fact that I did not grow up in a stable family. As a child, I had lived in many homes/countries and was bounced back and forth like a ball. My childhood basically made up of my little backpack and suitcases and always adapting to a new surrounding.
Eventually, we did re-unite with our mother but we did not see her much and it was our nanny who took care of us, very good care of us indeed. Therefore, I feel that I do not know how to be a mother, but maybe a nanny, lol ... of course, raising a child is more than being a nanny, right?! I know that much at least, haha!
I also know that materials mean nothing, my childhood friends often envy me having the nicest clothes, toys, pencil cases, the yummy lunch boxes and the summer travels. But, I envy them having the nicest parents who hold their little hands.
I hope and pray that life will teach me how to be a good parent. I do not expect anything from my boy, I just want him to be 100% healthy, 200% happy and 300% funny!
Please send me any mom's and dad's jokes or tips you want to share with me. I would love them!
Or, even if you are not a parent, do you have any nice stories to share about your parents so that I could learn from them?!
I am also looking at you @bleedpoet and hoping you could give me advice on how to raise a healthy, happy and funny boy :)
oh my god what a wonderful news congrats and all the best
Thanks dear - Haha, I have been keeping this secret for far too long!
haha now i know you can keep a secret!!
Haha too funny. Love it!!
Bahaha
congrats!!
Congratulations!
Having a child is the best thing ever, even though there is times you do not feel that. But they are few and far apart.
I am not gonna tell "do this, do that", but you will never feel ready, but you will adapt, very fast, and become the best parent you can be. That's it. Nothing else, never compare with others, everything and everyone is different.
The only advice I will give is, try to enjoy EVERY moment, as the it will never come back again.
Yes, waking up to a screaming child at 3AM to feed them is, at the second a nightmare, but while feeding it, it is the most precious time you have with it, so try to enjoy it, because very soon, it will never happen again.
But then, there is another thing that you can enjoy.
Good luck!
Thank you @dukkse - Much appreciated. Will definitely take your advise to enjoy every moment.
Congratulations! :) Don't try the happy panino while you are pregnant :P
HaHa thanks!
Congratulations. These are great news. I wish you all the best. No worries. You will be good parents. 😊
Thank you for your kind words
Congratulations!!!😊 Welcome to the hood (parenthood, you're allowed to make bad jokes once you've proven your parts work😂)
Some things I learned? Relax. Your stress will only feed theres, be happy, content, baby just wants warmth, love, food and rest. Bring some newborn diapers to the hospital, it's a size below 1, super tiny. Don't worry about nurseries and the like, will be plenty of time while the baby sleeps in the first six months. After six months beware the first roll. Support the head. Don't worry about haters, shamers, all the baloney, if the baby cries it's hungry, tired or spoiled the diaper, process of elimination... None of the above? Colic or teething. Breastfeeding isn't easy to begin with but patience and advice from women who have done works better than any advisement I could give. Again, the less stress the better, every parent fucks up now and again.
No sandwiches till after 1🐣👶🏽
Haha - I think baby already had a lot of sandwiches and may prefer Keto Diet instead.
Wow - You know so much, I have yet to find out what Colic is, lol.
Very helpful tips and will definitely make note to them. Thanks a million for sharing!!
I hope all goes well in May. BTW, when is your little one due?
Figuring between 7 and 20 days, go see the doctor again tomorrow.
All very good advice @bleedpoet, I often wish I could turn back the clock & have a re-run but that's how life goes, and my sons actually turned out more than ok...just wish they would have some babes of their own now, time's running out!
Congratulations on the bun on the oven!!! Don't you worry I can just tell you will be amazing, all a child needs is love and I know you've got plenty of that just by looking at your food!! It comes naturally 👍👍💖
Thank you so much for your kind words :)
OMG, you're having a baby! That's a good news. Congrats Kini!! ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, my girl - We are very excited and wanted to share the news.
Congratulations @steemit-foodie! One thing's for sure, your life's going to change for the better so enjoy this new phase :)
I found the very best advice in a poem by Kahlil Gibran:
"Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable."
Very beautiful poem and I really appreciate you sharing it with me and the kind words @lizelle , xoxo
