what comes to your mind when you hear of the word “slum” a place were so much hazardous things happen and kids are not treated as fair as they should be, right!. A place with no roofs, solid walls or access to clean water? A place were little girl children are harassed, raped and prolly impregnated which leads to miserable ever after life? a place with high and poor living conditions which is unhygienic and unpleasant.

But have you ever considered that there is a future in the slum? Let me fill you in with this story.

A young boy of about 13, was passionate about football, he played in the local fields around his environ (slum), and for about 12 years of playing consistently, he was not noticed, he only played with hope and was determined to leave behind anything that was willing to set him back, his dreams came through when he was signed by a famous Nigerian International coach popularly called the legend of Nigerian football at noon, in person of Coach Monday Sinclair. The popular Nigerian footballer Taribo West was made from the slum...so it’s really true that we should never despise the days of little beginnings( Zechariah 4:10).

The slum kids deserves all of the love and support the rich kids living in glass houses get, but it's unfortunate that they don’t get to experience this exorbitant treatment and it may have a way of registering in their mind that the glass world was never meant for them, looking closely, these kids our always filled with gifts and talents that will change their lives for the better if only it’s being natured. Apart from the above mentioned Taribo West, we still have the likes of Odion Ighalo, Brown Idelye, Jonathan Akpoborie, they all started their journey from the famous Nigerian slum in Lagos “Ajegunle”

Hidden futures, stars, bright lights and front runners are found in the slums and we all can be a voice to the slum kids and give out the support we can show to them. Be a Monday Sinclair to the nearest slum kid to you...who knows, another Taribo West can be spotted.

you're right When they name neighborhood, people automatically think negative things. But it is a NOTHING objective thought. In my case I grew up in a neighborhood. It was not so dangerous but there were many cases of unattended children. Thank God our parents instilled in us courage and education. I went to the university my 2 brothers and I and now we live in better places. In your publication it is good to read cases like them. a footballer who knew how to follow his dream and reach it. that he did not deviate and he succeeded.

Thank you for coming around here @blessed-girl, i really do appreciate, and we need to show love and care to these kids, like i said, who knows who we might be helping to stand....lets keep steeming high.

@blessedgirl One thing that is certain is that children like these are always strong and I can tell after growing up in a place like that. One thing I also believe and know of a surety is that God still keeps them and I thank God I am a living testimony. I am currently an undergraduate at the university of Nigeria Nsukka Enugu, Nigeria. I still focus and Hope for the best

Yeah these are the kind of kids @dimimp was talking about. When these kids receive and own steem of their own via steemit. It will help promote steem when they see what steem can actually do for them

Thank you for the love, don't worry i will find plenty of these kids and direct them to you@empato, ope u won't mind😃😃

Guess what dear?

The kids in the slums produce one of the best talents from football, to music, to academics, to captain of industries.

The situations they face serve as their greatest motivation.
