Introduction

Hello steemkids, i'm excited to participate in this your ongoing word defination contest organized by you with the topic, what does conpassion mean to you.
This happens to be the first contest i'm participating in this community and i'm sure i'll win this.

what do you understand by compassion?

According to cambridge english dictionary, compassion is a strong feeling of sympathy and sadness for the suffering or bad luck of others and a wish to help them. But in my own understanding, compassion is a virtue, it means to show kindness, care, love and the willingness or desire to help others or people who are facing difficult times or situations in their lifes. Compassion is related or can be associated with kindheartedness.

who can show compassion and why?

Anyone can show compassion. Compassion isn't just for the rich as most people would think it is. Some people have the mentality that conpassion is all about the rich helping the poor, but that's not true. Showing compassion isn't all about rendering financial or material help or assistance to people only. Even giving advice to people is an act of compassion, saying or doing things to make a sad person smile or happy is still an act of compassion, praying for a person in a difficult situation is an act of compassion. So compassion doesn't have a targeted audience it's for everyone. Both young and old, rich and poor.

Have you shown someone compassion? How did you do that and how did the recipient feel?

Yes i have.
I showed compassion to a random stranger on tuesday who happened to approach me at aka road asking me for some money to pay his way to eket claiming to have lost his transport. He looked very stranded and frustrated. Looking into my pocket i didn't have any money to spare. But i had compassion on him and gave him the money i would have used to buy myself lunch. Although it wasn't enough but i could tell he was very happy and excited because he was smiling so widely and thanked me many times.

Has anyone shown compassion to you before and how did you feel?

Yes. I've been shown compassion by many many people and on several occasions. Whenever someone is compassionate towards me, i feel very happy, blessed and loved.

Express your compassion to someone in a practical way.

I was at the market earlier today, so i met a woman who sales food stuffs, she was with a baby and there was no one to assist her. And there were so many customers for her to attain to. But with the baby crying, it was very difficult for her to cope . So i had compassion on her and decided to assist her with the baby while she attends to the customers.

Do you think compassion is a virtue that should be cultivated by all and demonstrated in a practical way?

Yes. I think compassion should be cultivated and demonstrated in a practical way by all no matter the race, gender, age, or size.

How did you learn to show compassion?

i learnt how to he conpassionate from my parents at home, teachers in school, pastors in church and even from the bible. The book of colossians 3:12 says "Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience." thats an advices from God, telling us to be compassionate towards one another.

what would the world look like if everyone cultivates this quality?

The world would be a very better place to live in if everyone cultivates this quality. The world would be filled with love and kindness, and crime rates would be reduced drastically because crime happens as a result of selfishness, but in a world full of compassionate people, we would all experience heaven on earth.

conclusion

In conclusion, compassion is a virtue which should be cultivated by all, it should be benefits and advantages of being compassionate should be thought im schools, churches or any social or religious gathering for the betterment of the society and of the world at large.
