June 12: Philippines National Independence Day
Today in my home country, the Philippines is celebrating it's 120th year of Freedom.
June 12 is one of the significant day in my home country's history as it marks the nation's independence from the Spanish colonization on June 12, 1898 by General Emilio Aguinaldo and the Filipino revolutionary forces.
On this holiday, banks and government offices are closed, no classes and some establishments are closed except the shopping malls and a miniature Philippines flag can be seen in various places.
June 12: National Red Roses Day
Today is also a Red Rose Day.
Red rose is a symbol of love and romance and the June birth flower is the rose.
Roses primarily originated from China and was begun to be exported in Europe and America in the 16th century.
Each year on June 12, people in the United States observe National Red Rose Day.

Aside from the national holiday, The month of June is a special month in our family. June 5 is my mother's birthday, June 12 is my Auntie's birthday and June 21 is my uncle's birthday!

June 12 is special in my country, Nigeria too. It was the day, the first free and fair election ever to be held in the country was held and despite a sure winner, it was annulled.
