Currencies are now being used in the modern world for multiple purpose. It is used for business transactions, for setting up values and prices of one thing/service, used for national economy or even in international financial standing.

In the Philippines, we have what we call PHP or Philippine Peso as our currency. In our day to day use of these, there are some important things that we need to know about it. And as important as it could be, may help us understand the things we should've understand.

SECURITY FEATURES

Are you familiar with your bill's security features? Or do you really care about it?

It is important to know these security features because it will help us know the validity and authenticity of the bills that we are holding. Having a lot of money, doesn't really entail being financially rich but having authentic and legally acceptable money does. So let me not take it too long, these are some of the security features we need to know about the Philippine Peso bill.

HISTORY

Most of us doesn't care about the history of the Philippine currency, but as a true-blooded Filipino, we should care and understand about it. We doesnt know it might help us in the near future.

The very first currency where the name Filipinas appeared in the coins produced from 1861 to 1868. Considered as the first series of Philippine currency, these coins issued by the Spanish conquerors had denominations in 1, 2 and 4 pesos.

In the year 1897, Filipinas was changed to Islas Filipinas to reflect the archipelagic nature of our country. This was the last currency issued by the Spaniards in the Philippines until their reign in 1898.

DESIGN

The bills that we are holding or the ones in our wallet our newly designed bills. From the old ones, these are the changes being made to our bills:

P200 bill

changes to the images on the obverse side of the banknote, particularly those depicting the Declaration of Philippine Independence and Opening of the Malolos Congress.

P50 bill

"Leyte Landing" text changed to "Leyte Landing October 1944"

P1,000 bill

image of the Order of Lakandula Medal and the phrase "MEDAL OF HONOR" removed from the obverse side of the banknote

But it doesn't end there. We also have an upcoming release of new philippine peso coins this April 2018. Here are some of the proposed design by BSP:
