The more you expect, the more likely you are to get disappointed when your expectations aren't met. Reality can be pretty disappointing when it's not what you expected it to be. "Expectation vs. Reality" can be applied in different circumstances, and most often, the end result is disappointment. We have certain expectations before we indulge on something and we feel bad when it turns out different from what we have imagined. So, maybe the solution is to expect less and just let things surprise you. The lesser you expect the more likely you are to be amazed with the results you'll see. It makes you appreciate more.

When you have travel plans and you see travel photos on social media, it makes you more excited. But when you see the place up close and personal, you get disappointed it wasn't as beautiful as what you saw on the pictures. You have to take into consideration that the people who took the pictures you saw online might be professional photographers and knows the right angle when taking pictures. You also have to remember that filters can make a picture extra beautiful. Filters can enhance how a picture looks. It can be deceiving. So, make sure to research more. There are some "raw" and "unedited" photos out there that you can check out. They'd tell you what the place really looks like behind the enhancements and filters. Furthermore, don't just visit a place just because everybody's talking about it. Where's the fun in that?

Another example is when you get into the real world after being a student for a long time. All these years, you've studied hard to be well-equipped when you start working on a real and paid job. You even graduated with impressive grades. You have expected to land a good job and eventually enjoy a rewarding career. You thought that your skills and knowledge together with you passion is enough. But when you started looking for job, you begin to realize that it's really not like what you expected. There are a lot of skilled and intelligent people out there who can outsmart you anytime. There are a lot of more qualified applicants than you. It turns out that you're not the best, afterall. Yup, definitely not what you expected after spending years of studying.

It also hurts when you got hurt by the person you love. You gave your everything to make your relationship work. You loved him and cared for him in every way you could. You thought that if you would exert effort and take your relationship seriously, nothing can go wrong. But when things started to get rough, you realize that it's not enough that you're serious and you love him. That is not an assurance that he will stay beside you and love you forever.

As I have said, we should learn to lower our expectations. Or better yet don't expect anything. Life is better when you allow it to surprise you in more ways than one. It would lessen the chances of you getting hurt and disappointed. #expectationvsreality can be disappointing because reality is truly unexpected. And that's what makes life beautiful and exciting. It's unpredictable. Anything can happen.
