As per my Wild imagination, it doesn't have to last more than a year... The Redemption Period is for people who have Physical USD's and would prefer to Spend them at the 100 to 1 Exchange Rate... Under certain conditions, Fiat USD's can be turned in at a much later date, but they will no longer have any Legal Tender Status, at the end of the Redemption Period...
