David C. Davis - San Francisco, California
I want to share a new piece the recently came in the mail. I have posted some articles previously about David C. Davis ingots. As new pieces are aquired new discoveries are made.
I strongly believe all Davis ingots will reach tier 1 premiums. A month ago a 5oz sold over $2500.00 on EBay. Which I documented here on Steemit. That set an all time record. It was also the only Davis ingot to be publically auctioned off in the past 5 years.
Here is the David C. Davis 10oz silver ingot I aquired...

This is arguably the nicest "square mold" example I have seen to date. When I say "square mold". I am referring to the square shape style of this variety. There is another variety in the 10oz class that has rounded ends and edges. This square mold variety has been seen with lower serial numbers. As well as an even 10oz weight stamp. The rounded variety tends to be a odd weight. The strike and origional color on the newly aquired Davis are outstanding!
To follow up on saying new discoveries are made when more pieces are acquired. I now question how they manufactured the David C. Davis ingots. I have seen the hallmark on obverse and reverse sides of BOTH square and round varieties. See the square variety comparison below..

A few collectors in the community believe there was no rhyme or reason has to how David C. Davis stamped these. As you can see the square side with sharper edges is the bottom of the mold(reverse side). The top side shows the "pillow top"(obverse side). It will be interesting to document these moving forward to see how they are struck more often then not.
These David C. Davis ingots are exceedingly rare. Allengelhard.com shows an estimated mintage of less then 100 in this variety. It is tough to find any documentation on them. I see this as an opportunity to offer unique discoveries to all members of the community!
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
That is a great looking bar. Now they are not my thing but if I was offered it, I'd snap it right up.
Hell yea @welshstacker! I'll tell ya though. You get a really nice example like this in your hands. The sickness will take over. You'll be hunting them before you know it. 🤒
I think that's why I don't buy bars... Once you get 1, ypu got to get them all!
I like the look of that bar, super low mintage=awsome. That stamp movement is intresting.
Thanks for the feedback @tbnfl4sun. These are my personal favorite. Trying to understand the stamp placement is tough!
@silveringots you once told me that this would be my resource to learn about all things shiny ingot and I must say you were correct. The styles and makers are foreign to me, but it is interesting to learn about them. As you said it would be interesting to document where the stamping was and if you could isolate a time frame. Perhaps, they changed their head of production several times and this lead to changes in stamping. Wonder if there would be any one from the company or a family member that may have notes about it. Thanks for sharing and would make for a great coffee table book!!
@dwingsworld So here is a magazine article found pertaining to the David C Davis Ingots dating production around 1968. This has been a valuable article in the history of this refiner. It shows production targeting the "collector" audience. Which I find to be amazing. Back in 1968 collectors were not out there like they are today. Great to see you enjoying the articles and intend to keep the content comming. Along with the games😎
Very cool and I appreciate you sharing buddy!! Really is interesting and I feel like stacking is a lot like coin collecting. Given that we are kind of a small community and a niche market there was probably a good number of people interested in this type of product. Thanks for everything @silveringots
Market for silver ingots is growing faster then any other metal market right now. Thanks @dwingsworld
@silveringots Very nicely done and I will be keeping my EYES Open for these.............
Thanks @stockjockey!
What would be the best process to sell a 10 oz David C. Davis silver ingot? I have one that I am planning to sell.
