A few more wood pours.

I've been tinkering around with more wood pours. These are just done on some old pieces of pine. I'm not sure I like them and might throw them back in the melt pile until I carve more molds. Hardwood makes a nicer, more defined patterns and I just happened to have picked up some White Maple, Elm and Ash. I still have to figure out how to clean all these pieces. Maybe I'll sandblast them. LOL

The Mystery Pour

This one was/is still a mystery pour. I know what it's supposed to be but I have to tweek the mold a little bit. It also has a built in kickstand on the back from when it was cooling down. Can you guess what this is supposed to be? Highly doubt it but I'll give you a clue. It's an emoji.

The Star Pour

This one is OK. The sharp points on the Star dull down quickly after a few pours. I have to figure out to get them more defined. Here she is!

The Heart Pour

This one is my favorite and I'll probably keep it or sell it or who knows. Maybe a Valentines Present for the wifey. Again it's hard to keep the sharp top of the heart and from the back it looks like a funky circle almost. I really wish I could capture the details with my phone better. Love it or hate it, here it is.

I need lots more practice and lots more MAP gas. It's fun but is very time consuming making wood molds that won't even last 5 pours. But I guess that makes each one that much more unique. I don't have any specific weight in mind when pouring these. Whatever happens to fall out of the crucible into the mold is how much they weigh. LOL

What do you think? Keep them or melt them? Which one or ones would you keep or melt. Thank for checking them out.

WOW, very cool wood pours. I know you are enjoying it, @wgholdingsllc!!!

I'm having a blast @silversaver888. I burn wood to heat my pole barn so I have plenty of different woods to try.

Nicely done! Can't wait till summer so I can do more wood pours! I did a heart in 14k gold last year, was tricky getting the shape right cause it burned a bunch. I ended up carving the burned mould deeper and it worked OK.

Thanks @fat-elvis. Winter is the best time to pour as it keeps you warm. LOL. That is the problem I'm having too. I tried to pour into it a couple times, then make it deeper. It seems to lose the detail after that and just gets weird looking. I need more practice.

I dug it deeper with my carving tools and it worked out alright. but yeah, it burns away detail

Nice! I do remember this. Maybe what inspired to try pouring one. Yours looks way better than mine.

You should keep the star and heart. It’s nice to see how well you progress.

That other one was supposed to be an Eggplant but it's impossible to get the leafs of top to stay. That part always burns away. I wanted to make one for either MR3 or the Golden (silver) Eggplant Award. LOL

Thank you @ssg-community. Maybe one of these will make it in the next Monster Raffle.

I’ve not see wood pours before. This is pretty cool and the fact the molds can be easily craved is so convenient.

It's pretty cool because you can make it whatever you want. And the wood is cheap since I use it to heat my barn. Thanks for the comment @cryptictruth!

You are making some great progress with these wood pours @vgholdingsllc! It seems like most of the wood we are finding anymore is Ash because they are all dying in our area, but they make some great heat.
