Icons of Route 66- Coin #2 The Missouri Gateway Arch
The second coin in the Icons of Route 66 is the Missouri Gateway Arch. I really like the unique shape of these coins.....until you see what happened below.
The Reverse, shown above is the same on all the coins in the series so far. It reads "Route 66", similar to the iconic road sign, and lists the Silver weight and purity.
Missouri Gateway Arch
February 12, 1963 construction on Arch started. It took approximately 2yrs and $13 Million to complete. The monument opened to the public on June 10, 1967. Here are some interesting facts about the arch.
- The Arch stands 630ft tall and is the largest Arch in the world.
- It is as wide as it is tall.
- It's the tallest man-made monument in the Western Hemisphere.
- It also holds the record for the tallest stainless steel monument in the world.
- The Arch was designed to sway 18in and is earthquake resistant.
Route 66 Coin Set
Here are all the Route 66 coins that are out.
And then I broke one....Ugh!
This one fell out of my pocket in the parking lot. Pretty sure I don't have any extra air-tites for this one. Looks like I'll be ordering another case for it. I didn't see it listed but I'm guessing they sell them seperate. What a jackass I am.
I'll be adding more and updating the series as they come out.

I don't have any idea where you will find a new capsule. Pity.
I'm going to see if JM Bullion carries them. Hopefully they do.
They did a nice job with those. Dam shame on the case. 👍
I like these much better than the round. The poor coin. I watched it fall in slow motion, then crack.
Oh no!!! The case! 😭
This shield is on my list. I am hoping it turns up in a birthday present to me this week, but if not I am going straight to the Internet! ☺️
I hope you get it for your birthday @dfinney and Happy Early Birthday!!! They really are nice coins. The broken case sucks. Couldn't believe I dropped it.
Sorry to hear about the cracked case, but it can happen to the best of us. I really like the shape and design on the second one and I can see why you like this one better.
Yeah the case is a bummer. I've been looking around but haven't saw a replacement yet. This coin is 100% better than the round in my opinion. Thanks for checking it out @knowledge-seeker.
Thank you for your continued support of SteemSilverGold
Thanks @ssg-community for everything you do.
Wow, those are unique! I like them a lot. Wouldn't mind getting some as talking pieces. The shape is so cool. I'm glad it was just the case that broke. I read it wrong and I was trying to figure out how you broke a coin. I was super worried. heh. Hopefully you're able to get another case from them.
They are some really cool coins. I'm still trying to find a replacement case. Probably call JM Bullion tomorrow and see what they say. I was debating on raffling off these 3 coins. I have another set already. Figure I could make 1st place the 2 Sign coins, 2nd place the Route 66 round and 3rd place could be some copper rounds or something. We'll see what happens.
Sounds like a fun raffle! People love it when there are bonus prizes. I am going to start looking for more copper rounds when I'm making my rounds at the coin store. See what I did there? Ha ha. I'm easily amused.
I hope you're able to get a new case for it. Seems like they should make them stronger. The whole point is they're supposed to protect the coin. Doesn't help if they break with one drop.
If you can't find the case, buy a new coin and I will buy a Gateway Arch one from you.
That coin would go perfect in my display case on the "places we've been" shelf, and I display them behind glass without the case anyway.
Just throwing that out there as an option for you if you'r interested. I would need to pay in STEEM as I am on a short leash in the cash department atm. ;-)
I just put them up in a @ssg-community fundraiser raffle. I have more if you want one.
Route 66 is iconic! Thanks for showing your collection. I don't have a single piece of the series. Your article is making me think about getting me some. It is a US landmark series, and so worthwhile to have.
You could get a "free" one if you enter my SSG fundraiser raffle. Check it out @silversaver888. Oh and I'm still waiting to here back from the Post Office.
Aweaome tou know that I really like this set! Sorry to hear about the case but you may be able to contact Apmex and see about a replacement capsule. Think the whole set together is going to be great! Thanks for sharing!
For sure @dwingsworld. Go check out the raffle for SSG. I'm raffling these off.
Have done so sir and amazing raffle brother!! Thanks again!
