Dogs and humans: similarities beyond your imagination
Jumping between dog breed websites I found some general characteristics of our canine friends and while doing so, I was learning the great difference that exists between each race not only in its physical appearance but in what we can call its "way of being". "And I could not help making certain comparisons with us humans which was quite interesting and entertaining, and of course the imagination flies.
In these canine websites their characteristics are measured on a scale of 1 to 10 taking into account features related to how friendly or sociable a dog can be with other dogs or with other people, their level of intelligence and finally energy level, linking this last point with the need to take him to have physical activity; This last very useful to know that so much need a dog that they take him out for a walk or how homey he is.
When relating these differences between races and characteristics of dogs with the types of personalities in us, humans basically did it taking into account what I know about the psychological types in us humans: Introverts-extroverts, sociable or with antisocial personality, sedentary or hyperactive, with high IQ or people considered with low intellectual or cognitive capacity and average people; people with bad character and even aggressive and also people with what we call positive and smiling attitude.
Below what I found:
Breed: Basset Hound
Energy level: 3
Ease of training: 2
Mandatory exercise: 3
Friendly with strangers: 6
Friendly with other dogs: 7
Human Version: Person a little apathetic that by his sedentary lifestyle becomes addicted to TV and it could be that social networks too, often suffer from overweight due to their low physical activity. With little facility to learn new things because of a relatively low IQ. Socialize more or less well with strangers. It is the person who from work to the house and nothing else. I think of some office workers.
Race: Chihuahua
Energy level: 4
Ease of training: 4
Mandatory exercise: 5
Friendly with strangers: 4
Friendly with other dogs: 6
Human Version: Noisy people, possessive and a little territorial, therefore not very friendly. It shares certain characteristics with the basset hound although more energetic and moody with strangers. He believes himself as the best listed on the social scale without necessarily being so. Due to its nature, learning is difficult, although possible. However, he is very faithful to those in his circle, others do not care.
Breed: Border Collie
Energy level: 10
Ease of training: 10
Mandatory Exercise: 10
Friendly with strangers: 8
Friendly with other dogs: 8
Human Version: A mad scientist took the DNA of Stephen Hawking and combined it with that of the Tasmanian Devil and created a hyperactive individual who can not stand still. Makes good friends especially if they are high voltage people too; in some cases they are even medicated as children. If they are not stimulated intellectually and physically, they may suffer from anxiety and may be able to release their energy-intellect in a destructive way. They are herd leaders. They are not claustrophobic but in the open air they express themselves better.
Race: Bichón Frisé
Energy level: 4
Ease of training: 7
Mandatory exercise: 4
Friendly with strangers: 9
Friendly with other dogs: 9
Human Version: A social and "homelike" individual. It is the soul of all the places where it is presented, with great facility to make new friends that nevertheless to show in some cases a certain level of passivity, paradoxically there will be some of these individuals who may suffer from loneliness to the extreme sedentary suffering from depressive states. They are popular at school or work.
Race: Chow Chow
Energy level: 6
Ease of training: 1
Mandatory exercise: 6
Friendly with strangers: 2
Friendly with other dogs: 1
Human Version: Now we have the case of independent introverted people who can be antisocial, they are only in themselves and in certain circumstances show high levels of aggressiveness. With an impulse to learn from others almost null but unlike the basset hound would not necessarily be for low intellectual level but for lack of interest. They tend to attract people because of their appearance, although if you expect affection, do not be fooled, they will hardly give it.
Breed: Doberman
Energy level: 8
Ease of training: 9
Mandatory exercise: 9
Friendly with strangers: 6
Friendly with other dogs: 4
Human Version: A Ninja if he is well prosecuted, but if he does not find a positive way to give vent to his abilities and instincts he will end up on twitter unleashing his fury.
Race: Bull Terrier.
Energy level: 8
Ease of training: 4
Mandatory exercise: 8
Friendly with strangers: 5
Friendly with other dogs: 2
Human Version: Impulses as a boxer that if not stimulated positively, and does not receive love from his parents as a child, ends up being a fan of drugs and weapons rap or narcocorridos that in extreme cases ends up in jail for serious crimes. If he receives attention and affection at home as a child, he is a faithful and protective friend.
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Energy level: 6
Ease of training: 7
Mandatory exercise: 5
Friendly with strangers: 6
Friendly with other dogs: 5
Human Version: In its masculine version it could be the mirrey if it were not because the Yorkshire Terrier has an acceptably good intellectual level and for this reason it could not participate in a beauty contest in its feminine version either. His parents love to show them off because of their "silky and fine" texture and often take them to TV and commercial auditions as children. Medium friendly since it is usually elitist. His "bad boy" and hipster version is also exhibitionist and likes to show off his tattoos on instagram, tumblr or facebook.
Do you know someone with these characteristics?
All these generalizations, a little in jest and with a little reality, are a pretext to put the magnifying glass on the fact that just as in dogs we find so many differences in aptitudes and attitudes, also in us humans. Important to emphasize this fact in a society that tends to act as if we were all equal; In fact, the educational system is based on this idea. Besides that we ourselves as individuals tend to criticize the one who does not fit in those molds, in these generalizations.
And also to say something about that tendency that we have to self-define and accommodate ourselves in certain boxes with their respective labels; whether they are organizations, groups, fashions or urban tribes. In doing so we are generally limiting ourselves by an impulse to belong to something and to resemble someone as a consequence of ignorance of our own individual characteristics, our aptitudes and attitudes.
We are all born with unique genetic characteristics that are influenced by the environment where we grow. It is useful to categorize but only to give us a general idea, but each one has something unique that the world expects us to give, whatever our characteristics may be.
Just as there is not a single green color, but tones in different degrees of green.
People, like dogs, can exploit their potential to the full if they are educated with love and their abilities are stimulated as children. Oh, there are also mixtures.
