Math is definitely crucial to humans, and Godel's incompleteness theorems is a huge thing in the last century. I'm interested to go a bit deeper for that topic in later posts.

I think Mathematics: The Loss of Certainty by Morris Kline is a good book to read to understand better about math and its history.
