Why run a lightning node?

Well for one you will be securing the lightning network. Also, you will be supporting instant payment confirmations, minimal fees and increased privacy. Since the genesis of Bitcoin, the question of how to scale has been debated and different implementations of solutions have been built and tested. The lightning network is one solution that will fix the current issues surrounding the scalability of Bitcoin in the future.
