Buddhist's believe that sleep is a temporary death, allowing our subconscious mind time to work on matters the conscious mind can not yet handle. And I think the togetherness you speak of is definitely in keeping with our need to be part of a tribe, to have connections both physical and otherwise. I like the additional perspective. I often feel like if I align with any "religion" Buddhism would be the closest. It's also the one that I have not really studied and find that to be the most beautiful part of it.
