▶️ Speak on Steem Update: Embedded links, Uploads in chunks, and more

Speak on Steem continues to improve day by day both outside and inside to ensure maximum user stability and experience. Today we bring changes mainly in stability and corrections of some errors that hindered the user experience, we also include one of the most requested features by the community and it is the preview of the publications in the Embedded Links.

We start this update with the embedded links, with a system that will detect visitors to the website https://speem.watch and classify them as bots or users and serve the content specially optimized for each of them. It will deliver the most important data of the pages to the Bots for their correct indexing and graphic improvement when sharing links on social networks, thus allowing people to preview the content before entering to allow users to create catchy descriptions that enhance their visits.

Smart preview will be available for user profiles, posts and SpeemClips.

We have worked hard to adjust the layout exactly to the size of the screen to prevent content from being lost under the lower and upper navigation bars. Especially in Google Chrome the layout was not adequate, we worked hard to optimize it as much as possible in these browsers.

We fixed an error in the sound button that paused the video when clicked on it; we also implemented permanent IPFS Gateways so that you only have to change it once and this will be applied in future IPFS videos that you are going to watch.

We also include a smart Fall Back that will automatically change the Gateway if the video you are trying to watch is not available to ensure optimal viewing as many times as possible.

We improve the stability of the URLs. Previously if the post did not exist the page broke, now it is able to detect these situations. If it is about viewing a YouTube post or a blog as a clip, the page would break, now the website will redirect exactly to the place where it should be without worrying about writing the URL well.

We have added the button to follow users directly on the clip page to further encourage the connection between users and prepare for the future where new features will be based on your followers to boost the genuine connection between users of the platform.

As requested by users, we added a small description of the post at the bottom of the clips along with the tags in a more compact and not very inclusive version so as not to interfere with the subtitles or user content. It is recommended that all creators evaluate the safe areas of their content to avoid interfering with these parts of the application as well.

We have been constantly working and monitoring the behavior of video uploads to IPFS. Several users have reported a cut in the rise after a certain time. We applied changes to our server to maximize the disconnection time of the request, however this did not fully solve the problem.

Some users, especially from Argentina. They said they continued to present intermittents probably due to total cuts in the Internet connection for short periods of time which causes the connection to the server to be unexpectedly closed.

For this we implement a system of uploading files in chunks or pieces, which closes and pauses automatically when the Network connection is lost and resumes when it is online again to ensure the greatest possible stability.

I am still attentive to user feedback, but this solution should mitigate most stability problems when uploading files.

Even some browsers like Safari on iOS continue to cut the connection by their nature when dealing with HTTP connections, but most cases will behave stable.

We have migrated to Google Analytics to have greater reliability in the website usage statistics, taking advantage of the situation we apply to monetization with Google AdSense And the request was successfully approved, we have enabled a few ads as little intrusive as possible to test this feature.

Considering the current metrics of the website we do not expect to generate more than 10 USD per month so if this is the case we will simply deactivate these ads until the conditions of the site are more optimal. The idea would be in the future to use ad revenue to buy Steem, power up and burn at least 15% of this income and thus contribute to the blockchain economy.
