StemQ: https://www.stemq.io

We are very excited to announce the launch of a new application powered by the Steem blockchain!

Introducing StemQ, a Questions and Answers application focused on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Do you have questions of a scientific/engineering nature that you would like to ask the Steem community?

Do you think you could be in a position to provide answers to other Steemians' questions?

Would you like to be rewarded through Steem cryptocurrency in the process?

Then StemQ is for you!

Looking for Q&A content!

StemQ needs a vibrant community of readers and contributors to support it!

StemQ is looking for fresh content to build up its library of STEM related questions and answers.

Content on StemQ takes the form of question and answer articles published through distinct posts.

For a detailed example demonstrating the general format of these posts, please check this introduction to StemQ.

The StemQ web site has been designed from the ground up to look good within your mobile web browser.

But we plan also to release soon an Android and iOS dedicated app.
Stay tuned for more news about this!

How can you help?

Beyond providing new content as described in the previous section, anybody can help by spreading the word about the new StemQ application. Simply resteem this post or let your friends know on social networks.

Show us your support by upvoting this post!

You can also join us on the StemQ Discord server for latest news, getting help and interesting exchange of ideas about how to improve the app.

Finally, the team at StemQ is looking forward to being able to provide significant rewards for quality contributions, offering bounties to answer questions and issuing new development task requests.

To this end, StemQ will need significant Steem Power.

This will be achieved through a good bit of networking and the backing of those who believe in the project.

If you would like to delegate some SPs to the project, you can follow instructions on how to do so on this post or use one of the following delegation links:

On behalf of the StemQ team, thank you for reading this post and supporting the project.
We look forward to providing you with updates of exciting new features in the very near future!

The StemQ Team.

This sounds interesting. I tutor high school math (geometry is a favorite of mine) and physics.

Great, we are looking forward to good contributions from knowledgeable people.
Thanks!

Amazing good to see its finally launched

Thank you so much @pangoli!

One of the answers appeared in my feed, and I upvoted it.

I came to think that if it's supposed to mimic the success of stackexchange and assume the most heavily upvoted answers are the best answers, it may fail as currently on Steem it's typically the more popular authors rather than the more popular posts that gets the upvotes. I felt morally compelled to investigate the alternative answers to see if any of those were better, and eventually give an upvote to an alternative answer as well.

Just my 2 cents. :-)

Hi @tobixen,

Yes, it's a valid point and we are all aware of the shortcomings of the voting system.
Currently StemQ will display answers by decreasing amount of netvotes which has clearly some drawbacks.

The only improvement that I can think of here is to back the project by a strong, well respected, curation team.

StemQ doesn't have that as of yet and so we are currently relying on other guilds, such as @steemstem and @curie, to help us upvoting quality content and in doing so raise the visibility of these contributions.

Building a strong community is currently the priority of the project and I believe that interesting developments will follow.

Thank you for checkout out for alternative answers. I hope others follow suit.

Thank you for your feedback.

@irelandscape

I think filters might work. I'm. Not tech savvy, but if there is a way to allow for just votes that were done through the website to be displayed on the site (thus, reducing hiding the bulk of auto upvotes people get from readers who aren't interested in science), it might go a long way to help.

That way, only votes from people who are interested in the post counts..

It's really dicey though, because if I were a casual reader and i found something I'm interested in, I probably could just vote because I found it meaningful anyways, I don't have to use StemQ... But then again, without something like this in place, it would always seem like the more popular people are better at science than others (as will be reflected on the votes they accumulate).

Me, as an old-school conservative guy, I'm always for a nice, manual censorship :D

The filter is a simple and elegant solution

You see...

Posts that are out of scope can be flagged by an administrator.
That will cause the post to disappear from StemQ.
Of course, that's a measure of last resorts...

It was a joke >D

Absolutely best wishes and every future success, god knows we need all you devs building great DApps. Please get a great mod team in place or I fear the spammers and gamers will hit you hard but I do believe niche DApps are the future. I will be following closely and looking forward to trying it out :-) Hageca great weekend.

Thank you so much for your good wishes @nathen007.
Please let us know if you have any queries about StemQ in the future.

And remember, contributing is easy.
We all have STEM related questions! :-)

I actually work as a scientist in the field of physics. I would be more than happy to answer questions regarding stuff I know but I dont quite understand how the platform would work.

Would I have to post my own questions and then later answer them? If this is not the case and other users in need of answers would pose the questions, then how would the questions be directed towards the people how can actually answer them.

Otherwise I think it is a very good idea.

Hi @maticpecovnik,

Fantastic, StemQ biggest need right now is for knowledgeable contributors to answer questions.

But StemQ also promotes contributors to post articles about specific subjects in the form of a question and an answer.
So yes, feel free to submit future STEM posts as a question post + answer post.
You just need to leave 5 minutes gap between both posts as Steem won't let you post 2 blogs consecutively.

For now the StemQ is quite basic so questions are not "directed" to users.
You can check the questions for a particular subject by going to the "Topics" page.

Feel free to ask me for more help here or on the Discord server.
Happy to provide any assistance required.

Cheers,
@irelandscape

Hey buddy, haven't seen you in a long time...

Oh hey man. I was actually wondering if you are still active. Glad you are. Yes, I am back. I hope I can be consistent over the long term this time.

This is a great idea and one I will be checking out. I hope knowledgeable curators come on board to make it a success and that delegation will be made available from up high.hint hint @ned

Thank you @ammonite.

For now StemQ relies on other curation guilds, such as @steemstem, to provide strong support to quality contributors.

This will hopefully change as StemQ grows in SP and community.

Stay tuned!
@irelandscape

Awesome idea! Wish you good luck, maybe one or another question regarding biology I might answer as well.
Resteemed!

Thank you @stayoutoftherz.

Definitely looking forward to contributors answer questions!
There are already a couple of biology related questions.

@irelandscape

Good luck with the project. I think that the approach is very good because the vast percentage of people - need a specific topic. It's just "street smart".

What we also need is to explore different eco. niches by providing different formats.

Hey, @stemq.

Another dApp for the STEEM blockchain. And a good idea for those who are knowledgeable about STEM related questions and answers.

I think there is more than enough subcategories within those four specific topics to make this work, and work well.

I wish you well here. I'm not as versed in any of those subjects as I would really like to be, but I will be checking it out and seeing if there is something I can contribute there.

I wish everyone on the stemq team success.

Thanks a bunch. 😀

Of course I'm sure that you might have many questions that are related to STEM so posting those as nice short articles would be a great way to contribute!

All the best.

True, @irelandscape, I'm sure there are some questions that would be STEM related that I could come up with. I'll keep that in mind. :)
