Youth Stoicism: How Ancient Wisdom Helps Young People Thrive In A Chaotic world
Hello Steemit community,
This is my first post here. I wanted to share something that’s been helping me lately: applying Stoicism as a young person in today’s world.
Life right now can feel heavy.
1.School pressure.
2.Social media comparison.
3.Uncertainty about jobs and the future.
4.Relationships that shift quickly.
Stoicism isn’t about being cold or emotionless but about staying steady when things get messy.
The main idea is simple, focus only on what you can actually control.
You can’t control
1.what others think of you
2.whether someone replies
3.exam results once the paper is handed in
4.the economy or big world events
But you can always control
your effort
your attitude
how you treat people
what you do next after a setback
Marcus Aurelius put it clearly:
“You have power over your mind — not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.”
That one sentence has helped me stop spiraling many times.
A few things I’ve noticed Stoicism helps with:
Less jealousy from scrolling
Bouncing back faster from rejection or failure
Worrying less about “what if” tomorrow
Caring more about being kind and honest than being liked
Quick daily habits I’m trying (takes almost no time):
Morning (1 minute) mental self evaluation:
What’s in my control today?
How do I want to show up?
When something goes wrong:
Pause and Ask: “Can I change this?”
If yes → act.
If no → accept and move on.
Evening (1 minute) mental consensus:
What went well?
What can I do better tomorrow?
That’s it. Small moments, big difference over time.
I’m not perfect at this, some days I still get frustrated or overthink.
But I’m getting better at catching myself earlier.
If you’re young and feeling the weight of everything, Stoicism can be a quiet anchor.
Start small. It adds up.
