Sotries On How Harry Potter Changed Lifes Of His Fans

1) JK Rowling saved me with her optimistic words

I  am 28 years now I did not start reading Harry Potter when I was in  school. I was not an avid bookworm and I thought of waiting till the  time when the movies arrived. This was however too late and by the time  the movies came; I was preoccupied with my own job. I was diagnosed with  Borderline Personality Disorder where I had no control of my emotions  and I broke down at every small word that was said to me. Most of the  time people told me that it was all my imagination. Then I got  down to reading books and quickly jumped onto the Deathly Hallows. I  became acquainted with my favorite characters among which I loved  Dumbledore. I still remember the quote said by him even now. Of course  it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that  mean that it is not real? ‘This one line changed my life forever and now  I feel that although my mental health is telling me things that are not  real or making me feel things that are not real, it is real to me, and  that’s what matters.

2) My English was not as great so I decided to improve it

I  am French and I grew up in France all-alone without friends. I loved  reading books and I read Harry Potter when I was 9 years old. I  instantly fell in love with it and read all the three series and waited  for the fourth one to come out. I however, realized that it would take a  long time for the books to be translated into French and it would be  too late then. My English was Ok, but no so great and so I decided to  train myself in English when I was 11 years old. The first three series  were known to be by heart and I repeatedly kept on reading them so  improve my English.I pursued my parents to order for the English  versions from Amazon, which they did. They ordered for the Order of the  Phoenix in English and I realized that I could understand the whole book  and eventually I began reading all novels in English. When I was 16, I  started looking for University options. I opted for a University in  London and though I did not have good bachelor grades, I got 19 out of  20 in English that improved my overall grades. I got an offer from a  London University, moved there and finished my masters and got into  Journalism. I am writing this article for Buzz Feed office in London and  I am sure that this would never have happened without Harry Potter.

3) Harry Potter was my best friend

My  family shifted from Virginia to Germany when I was 9 years old. My Dad  worked overtime in his new job, my mom had to accompany my ailing  grandmother in the USA, and my older sister joined college an older  brother was looking for options in foreign schools. I was in the midst  of a great cultural conflict and was all along without any friends. A  month or two after I joined school, my teacher started playing the  Philosopher’s Stone audio book to the class. I fell in love with the  book and borrowed it to read on my own.I read the first three  series and received the Goblet of Fire as a Christmas gift. Harry Potter  gave me the reason to bond with the students of my class. I slowly  became friends with the children whom I previously found unapproachable.  My Dad soon changed jobs and we were transferred to places like  Florida, Nepal, Austria, New York, and England. Harry Potter was my only  friend when I was all alone and introduced me to a world which was like  my own.

4) Harry Potter gave me the confidence

I  was 10 years old when I was diagnosed with dyslexia. I was a kid who  hated going to school and hated to read. I did not understand English  and every word went over my head. Mom tried helping me and she brought  me the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone which children were  reading them. That was the first time that I loved reading the book and  it gave me the confidence to read other books and confidence in school  as well. I ended up with a degree in English literature and this was  possible only with the help of Harry Potter.

5) Hogwarts helped me to escape my days at the hospital

My  first son was born with a very severe heart defect and I had to spend  the first six months of his life at the local children’s hospital.  During the last two months of his life, I read Harry Potter books to  keep myself occupied. Living in an ICU can really be heart rendering and  Harry Potter gave me the strength to ensure the days in the hospital. I  am now pregnant with a healthy child who I have decided to name Harry!

6) I would not have been what I am today without Harry Potter

I  was 8 years old when Harry Potter first came out and I suffered a  severe case of food poisoning. I had a 50% chance of surviving and  friends and relatives visited me to say goodbye. I lost 10 pounds in a  week and I slowly gave up hope of living. I then, started reading Harry  Potter books, which my mom bought for me. It is 19 years now and I still  believe that I would not have been here without the Harry Potter books  to keep in engaged and a reason to live. I thank J.K. Rowling, from the  bottom of my heart
