PROMISE IS A DEBT

This story is centered towards one rich and influential couple known as Mr and Mrs Benson and their housemaid known as Mary. The couple are married for over twelve years and they had no baby. This always baffled them and makes them sad everyday of their life. They one day decided to visit an infirmary to see a gynaecologist and they discovered that the woman womb is damaged owing to too much of contraceptives she takes during their relationship in undergraduate days.
They both went back home wallowing in sadness as a result of the gynaecologist discovery and wept bitterly. As they got home, they went straight to the bedroom and started weeping profusingly for days without coming to the sitting room.
Their housemaid known as Mary was disturbed and owing to their loving attitude towards her decided to ask them what is wrong. They narrated the whole story to her and she said she is ready to assist them in any way within her capacity. They thanked her and promise to get back to her in due time. As soon as the lady left their vicinity, the woman turned to her husband and ask her to please have an affair with their maid in order to impregnate her and avert their shame.
The man felt so embarrassed on hearing this and was angry with the woman, however the woman pleaded and gave him reasons for her action. The man after so many days of repeated pleading by the woman agreed to do her wish and promise to have sexual affair with her only for once and once she is pregnant, he is no more interested in the maid.
The woman reached an agreement with the maid and promise to offer her sum of 10million naira in exchange of baby in her womb as soon as she conceived.
The maid got pregnant and she was given an apartment to herself, unfortunately one day the woman decided to visit the maid and caught her husband having sexual intercourse with the maid again.
The maid known as Mary summon courage and shouted at the woman that she is the best for the man and not her. The woman wept bitterly and decided to divorce the man, the maid and the man continue with their affair and as nemesis would judge, it is time for the maid delivery and she has laboured for so many hours and yet unable to deliver which makes the doctor concluded to operate her.
The operation was done but not successful which led to the loss of both the mother and the baby. The man wept bitterly,regretted his action and keep hammering on the statement"had I know, I wouldn't have breached agreement ".
