Childhood for me was full of memories!!

What is the childhood incident or story you want to share?

Childhood for me was amazing even though there were some bitter experiences I had but in general it was fun.

Growing up in a family as mine, my mum was the story teller. She kept us glued every night with her interesting stories even though some were so scary.

I would share one of such childhood stories with us today. Story story....

There lived a very stingy man, his name was called Atipara. Atipara was wealthy but never shared or gave to any one. When he sees people in need, he over looks them, even when they come to him for help he gives the excuses.

He continued this lifestyle until one day he fell sick, different illness befell him at the same time. He had over 100 different diseases as if they were all targeting him to kill him.

Atipara didn't know what to do so he consulted a powerful native doctor for a cure. He couldn't even walk to the native doctors shrine because his legs was greatly affected with a disease. The native doctor was the one who came to see him.

The native doctor told him that it was because he has been a stingy person that was why all these diseases came to his body. Atipara asked the doctor what to do and here is what the native doctor said. ...

"Atipara" for all the times you have been stingy and neglected others, you will have to cook a very delicious meal, not one not two. You will make several meals because you have over 100 disease in you body waiting to kill you. So the meal should be over 100"

"After cooking you will have to sing a particular song, all the disease will leave your body to eat the food and that's when you should run"

Atipara was happy about the solution, it sounded easy so he went on to carry out the assignment. After cooking, he sang the song and all the sickness and diseases in his body began to drop down one after the other to eat the delicious meal that was prepared. When he saw that he was free from them all, he ran away but didn't go far, he was watching at how they were all eating the food.

When all the disease and sickness finished eating, they didn't see Atipara anymore, they realized that they have lost their home. So one of the disease stared singing and the rest joined him. Atipara loves songs and loves to dance, he couldn't withstand the drum beating and the melody of the song, he started drawing closer and closer until he got to where those diseases and sickness was and they all jumped back into in to his body and killed him.

How old were you, and what exactly happened in that moment?

The first time I heard this story I was just 6 years old. When my mum was telling this story, first i was so curious to what will happen next. The next thing that happened was that I was so attentive, I didn't want to miss any part of the story.

At some point I was anxious to know what happened to Antipara and I had lots of questions ringing in my mind such as ;
will He be obey the native doctor?
Why was he so Stingy?
Why can't he just obey and run very far away from that village to save his life after the sickness and disease came down?

What emotions did you feel during and after the incident?

During the story, I felt really sober, I felt really angry at some point to know that someone can be so wealthy yet stingy to help others in need. I felt bad for those who needed help from the wealthy stingy man but didn't get any.

At the end of the story I felt like Atipara deserved what he got at the end for not obeying 100% the instructions giving to him to save his life. I was left wondering how Atipara family will feel hearing about his death.

The entire story kept playing afresh in my head and as though the story played back in my dreams while I slept.

What lesson or realization did you learn from this experience?

There were 3 most important lessons I got from the story.

  • Never be stingy with what you have

We saw how the man Atipara was so stingy with his wealth, never shared and it resulted to his sickness, everyone deserted him.

  • Be compassionate to help those in need

Atipara was never compassionate to those who needed help from him. He never cared about anyone except himself.

  • Absolute Obedience is required

Even when solution came, he could not obey the instructions given to him absolutely, instead of running very far out of the village, he ran and hid nearby so he can see what was happening. And that led to his death.

How has this lesson influenced your life until today?

The 3 important lessons I leant from this story influenced my life in no small way. The lessons made me realize that am but a steward, therefore anything I have was just given to me to take good care of it, I should nut hold on to tight to anything I have.

The lessons formed my character, today I see myself rendering help and giving out to those who need it without thinking twice.

Sometimes when I see people in extreme cases and I can't help them I become so emotional that I even cry at the scene.

Today I also see my self as a loyalist. I follow instructions to the later. Sometimes I don't even know why the instructions came but I go on to obey first before asking questions. Generally I have leant that obedience will prevent so many problems than disobeying to solve the problem.
