The Telepath - A Short Story

Just after I was born and became aware I discovered I was also aware of the creatures around me.
I left the nest at a very early age mainly due to fear. I kept having these dreams/nightmares that my mother wanted to eat me.
These feelings got so strong that I decided to make a hasty exit and off I went into the great big world. As I grew a little older I soon realized that I had the ability to pick up on thoughts from all creatures and I knew exactly what they where feeling and thinking.
Many times in my life this came in very handy and saved my hide numerous times.

I remember sleeping one day and suddenly I had this feeling that a snake was approaching me and wanted to eat me. Not only did I have the feeling, but I could see through it's eyes and I could see it looking very intently at me. I could see myself through its eyes!
Needless to say, I beat a hasty retreat!

I ended up in a city that was teaming with life. There were rats, cats, dogs, bugs of all kinds and millions of humans.
I loved the city. There was always plenty of food if you knew where to look and always a warm place to sleep at night.
I especially liked to be in telepathic contact with the humans around me. There were so many interesting stories and emotions going on inside their heads. I could just sit somewhere quiet and pick a person and make contact with them and I would be that person looking through their eyes and interacting with other people.

I soon learned that I not only had a telepathic ability but I also had a certain amount of control over my "targets".
I tried manipulating their thoughts and became quite adept at doing so.

One day, as I was in a convenience store, I heard a lot of shouting. I looked up and saw this guy brandishing a very large gun and threatening the owner. A robbery was in progress! I decided to swing into action and made contact with the robber.

I immediately silenced him and he just stood there looking somewhat dazed and confused. I told him he must apologize for scaring the owner and also to place his gun on the counter.
"I am so sorry for scaring you, he said. "Look, you take this gun, I won't be needing it anymore." It's just that it's my moms birthday and I needed some money to get her a present."
The owner jumped at the chance and picked the gun off the counter. As he was starting to point the gun at the young robber I made contact with him.
He lowered the gun and said, "I understand." "Mothers are important and they don't always want to eat you."
He opened the till and took out a hundred dollars and gave it to the robber saying, "You take this and get your mom something nice!" The robber thanked him, took the money and left the store. The owner didn't get shot and was happy to have helped the young man even though there was a very confused look on his face.

I have many more stories about the gift I have and although I don't have time to write them all I just wanted to share this with all of you.
