Aryll - Chapter 1
ARYLL - Wasted Lands
Aryll didn’t know what kind of evil was following her but the one thing she knew was that she could not turn back. She had to keep going. She was already fleeing the monster for a week now. It was a creature that did not belong here. At least not to this world. For only the mere second she was eye to eye with that creature was enough to feel a madness that she couldn’t even comprehend. Somehow, she knew she couldn’t go back home. The voracious attack on Izillia had her in all sorts of emotions, first was anger, second was sadness and the third was frightens. Not of that creature that was following her but because, her people needed her. Her mom died in that fight and now they were leaderless. There was no returning now. She had to get it as far away as possible from her home. Even if that meant her death.
Aryll knew what she had to do. She was a fighter, her mom always joked about that she felt her kicks when she was still in her womb. But this thing was more than a match for her. She had to rely on Rashan that he would sense the threat and send help on time.
Because she was distracted by her thoughts she didn’t notice two humans jumping in front of her. They had been hiding behind the rocks. Her first instinct told her that she was in danger. By their looks she thought they were rovers. They probably thought she was an easy prey. A blond girl by herself and looking like she was lost. She couldn’t blame them for that because she didn’t look like royalty. She had dirt on her face and clothes. Her hair was tangled with branches and other stuff. They were speaking general language with a strong accent she couldn’t understand.
They came closer and one reached for something on his back. In a reflex, she got her magical shields high up and took her sword. Somehow, she felt that their shields got up to. So, those two were also mages.
‘Don’t get al jumpy now, eh lass.’ Said the one that reached. That’s what she thought he had said. Because she could barely form a word with what he was spilling out.
‘we are trying the help ya, you know? You look thirsty so I suggested to give you something to drink. It’s in my backpack. He said signaling his thump to his back. She shakes her head but still held her shields up and sword high up in front of her. They had put their magic shields down.
‘Ok’, he said. ‘What are you running from, eh lass? There is no one living in these areas anyway. These lands are wasted. Only our tribes are living here the Irish tribes.’ The Irish tribes we are indeed. Said the other one.’ She hadn’t thought about that. She looked back to be sure it wasn’t there.
‘From danger.’ She said more to herself then to reply to them. ‘You have nothing to fear little pretty bird.’ She turns her head in an instance. She didn’t look like a princess now but she was. Name calling like this she will not accept. ‘Call me that again and you will not speak again.’
‘I think you made her angry birdy, I don’t think she likes birds.’ The one who wanted to give her a drink is called birdy. He started to scratch his head and said to his partner. ‘yeah, well leafy my magic doesn’t work on outsiders anyway.’ Aryll frowned at that comment.
‘what I was trying to say lass is that we will protect you whatever the cost. If you’re so kindly to tell us your name. My name is Birdy Mcgreasy and this is my mate Leafy Hammit.’ She looked at them how she would have looked at anyone at home. It got the result she had been hoping for. Both started to get nervous. Somehow birdy got the courage to open his mouth. ‘Sorry, lass... miss I mean. I only notice now you’re an elf. We just thought you were a mage that was lost. We sensed you from some miles away.’
He knelt and took some dirt in his hands and held it in front of him. Leafy and I, we have been studying green magic for a long time now. I want to show you something.’ She frowned her brows. Birdy was concentrating very hard. She felt the weaves that were being made. She felt the weave of intension and there was the weave of love. It took a while before the weave of creation came. But when it came she was very surprised and she managed to even frown her brows deeper so that they almost touched. There were never any records of people able to use the green magic as elves could. She was so amazed that she forgot her worries from the outside. That’s the moment when the creature came and attacked…
